Where I used to live the council was made to make so many houses (never knew how many) to be used only for Immigrants and we were told that British people would never live in them again. As one immigrant family (after living there a while) told us they were leaving to move London to disappear.
It is not the Daily Mail's concoction re the figures for the take up of social housing, it is coming from Frank Field, MP, who is about to bring a Bill before Parliament to ensure that British born residents get social housing first. Surely that is as it should be? When I lived as an ex-pat there was no social housing or benefits of any kind offered and I didn't expect to receive any either. Why do we enable people to relocate here and obviously offer subsidised housing before British born residents?
Who are these foreign nationals that enter the country without the means to purchase or rent their own accommodation ? Are they genuine asylum seekers whom we have a moral duty towards ? If not why are we allowing entry to those in need when our country is already full ?

Need must be the driving factor in allocation housing since the only reason government should be dabbling in the property market would be to provide necessary accommodation to those who can not afford their own. But no country should be open house to anyone who fancies claiming aid in the country of their choice. If you don't offer to house the world, then this issue surely could not exist.
Shame they don't apply the converse to returning ex-servicemen - many of them who have served their country aren't entitled to anything.

/// This idea that you and the Mule have that people "born abroad" are un worthy foreigners is pretty despicable. ///

There you go again going off on one of your I hate AOG rants.

First let me put you right where I have said that people born abroad are unworthy foreigners?

I simply asked the question "Should British people be given priority to social housing over new migrants"?

And in doing so made no personal comments on the question.

/// I have a strong sense that you would judge my wife differently if she'd been Indian rather than Irish too! ///

I also take offence at this totally unnecessary additional 'racist' accusation.

In the circumstances I think that I am entitled to an apology from you.

But of course coming from a person who also calls another person a 'Mule' I don't supposed that any apology will be forthcoming.
So are you saying that if 40% of a borough's residents are born abroad, then they should ONLY be housed once British born people have been housed first???

The maths are all wrong here - surely we'd be introducing a system which guaranteed that those born abroad were subject to the worst housing, the highest rents etc.

I wonder if some of these posters realise this is not a Tory MP who is stating this, but a Labour MP.

And perhaps sp1814 who accuses the Daily Mail of playing with figures, would prefer to read this BBC report?

Of get over your disingenuous pretences.

Your posts are entirely race obsessed.

If you'll acknowledge that people from all racial backgrounds whether they are European, African, Asian or American are as good and worthy people as each other and as good as any native born Englishman

Then I'll appologise

Over to you

Got to wholeheartedly agree with you on that one.

I don't have to make any special dispensations to you, just to gain an apology from the likes of you.

In this instance, I have pointed out all your falsehoods and that is all I need to do.
I thought you'd choke on the idea that foreigners were as good as Brits

We have a word for people who descriminate against people based on their race don't we?

My Sister was emigrating to Australia, was she going to get A free house. Free health care. free schooling for her kids. free money to live on. Oh and free furniture............ Was she hell.
The rules are all wrong. To base the decision on need rather than justification has allowed immigrants with huge families to overtake someone who has been on the waiting list for years and will never get a council house.

Like many other government systems many of those who receive full benefits and have hardly contributed anything in National Insurance is a disgrace.

No wonder our country is bursting at the seems with destitute people from abroad even risking their lives to get in on our system. Once the breadwinner has escaped our border controls they then bring in their wives children other family members the lot.

Again, couldn't the same be said for the dole spongers who go from school to baby breeding without working anywhere in the interim?

Yes but at least they are our own 'spongers' without the need to import some of the worlds 'spongers', which unnecessarily increases the numbers of those our taxpayers have to support.
sorry AOG. I fail to see any difference, a sponger is a sponger is a sponger in my book.
I think the point is that we have enough of our own home-grown spongers to cope with without importing more. Whether housing priority at this late stage is the way to deal with it though, I have severe doubts.
I totally agree with Naomi, no job when you come here, no home, simple.
There should be no question
