In 1977, the Sex Pistols got to number one with 'God Save The Queen'. It was never officially announced as the number one single (that 'honour' went to Rod Stewart's I Don't Want To Talk About It) - because it was seen as insensitive to the national mood at the time.

Is it now time to right this injustice and to go out (or stay in and download) and buy this song and give the Pistols the number one they were robbed of 35 years ago?

Ah the raw energy, the unfettered rage, the grabbing of the attention of all within earshot. Spitting, snot flying, eyes bulging, sinews straining, fists clenched.

That's a tantrum by a toddler.

Get over it.
they couldn't and he acknowledged that.
apparently Grundy was drunk, or so an article i read the other day suggested, so perhaps that was what it took to listen to them. Too many sherberts
Sherberts! I'd forgotten that expression. I haven't heard it in a long time! :o)
Who do you mean? McLaren?

of course he did

His claim to fame was what he titled 'the great rock and roll swindle' where he, pop svengali turned talentless kids into pop stars

Great story - only problem is it wasn't true.

the Pistols had been playing, rehearsing and writing material for 2 years.

the quality of their playing can be heard on the records - catch the tvdocumentary 'Classic Albums - never mind the ***' for details.

And their live performances now reinforce that
did you ever see, hear them?
I bought it at the time just to be naughty, same reason most others did and the only reason it was so popular. Even Johnny wouldn't claim it was musically good.
em

In '77? sadly no

and after they became 'famous' and matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious the gigs weren't about music any more

I did see the original line up live in 2002 and they were very good
I won't be buying it as I already have it, but I hope it does well.
Still as polarising as ever!

I interviewed Johnny Rotten in the '80's and he was charming, very shrewd and aware, and absolutely no-one's fool.

He continues to do what he has always done - laugh all the way to the bank.
