/// "Converts who become extremists or terrorists are, of course, a legitimate story," said Mr Mughal. "But my worry is that the saturation of such stories risks equating all Muslim converts with being some sort of problem when the vast majority are not". ///
What is Fiyaz Mughal, director of Faith Matters actually suggesting that all such stories should be somehow less saturated in some way?
How does he suggest that this can be done?

Britain's shameful involvement in enslaving and murdering millions of people should not be ignored or swept under the carpet as a detail of history.
It's also a poor argument to point to others who have enslaved people because by a country mile, Britain and America have been the worst offenders in modern times.
British slave owners acknowledged that a number of their 'stock' (as they referred to these human being) would perish on the long sea voyages. Sometimes slaves would have to lie next to dead bodies until they'd been disposed of.
Today, we are reaping the rewards of the evils of the slave trade. The UK's position as a world power came through the industrial revolution which was based on its colonial exploits and slavery. The riches which have trickled down the years came from that.
People shouldn't expect modern day Brits to wear sadkcloths and cover themselves with ashes, but by the same token, they shouldn't revise history to expunge the guilt of their forefathers.
Lastly - when you point out the abuse of slavery by nations, you're effectively saying, "Look...we were bad, but so were they!" which is like saying, "Yeah, alright...I murdered loads of people, but Dr Harold Shipman murdered more".
It is not an absolution.

I am surprised that you are encouraging us to post these links AOG
// British authorities said Wednesday that they are investigating allegations of inappropriate behavior by two soldiers in Afghanistan after reports surfaced about possible abuse of children there.

The Sun newspaper reported the allegations, saying the soldiers filmed the children and showed the video to other servicemen who reported them. Afghan President Hamid Karzai's office said it was "deeply disturbed" by reports that British soldiers encouraged two Afghan children to touch them.
The British Ministry of Defense, however, would not comment on the nature of the allegations or say if the soldiers remain on active duty. //

If you cannot forgive us for what our forefathers did, why do you continue to live in a country that has committed such heinous crimes against your own forefathers, and also why do you yourself continue to reap the rewards of the evil slave trade?

do you not think that what we see on the news day in day out confirms some at least of has been expressed. That currently much of the Arab world is in some form of conflict. That had we not become involved in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya that killings would not have gone on. Syria is in a state of siege, the current incumbent hell bent on not only denying demcorcacy to people who say they want it, but killing men women and children in Syria.
Wasn't it Saddam Hussain killings his own, wasn't also the Taliban killing indiscriminately Afghani peoples. And continue to do so, it would seem.

I don't know why you brought 'forgive' into the discussion. I said 'acknowledge'.
And seeing as it was my forefathers who provided the energy to drive the industrial revolution, surely it's right that I enjoy the benefits down the line?
Lastly - "Why do you continue to live in a country that has committed such heinous crimes?"
Easy answer - coz I'm British.
That question has as much validity as asking a German Jew "If you find what the Third Reich did so repugnant, why don't you move to Isreal?"

Do you mean savagery in recent time or savagery long ago or both, AOG ? None is particularly pertinent.
Mystifies me why anyone mentions slavery. Don't think al Qaeda cite it as a reason for hating the West, thereby justifying or explaining their actions. Does any enemy of ours cite it as a reason for attacking us? And which resident of Britain uses it to explain their current grievances? And with what logic?
Two wrongs don't make a 'right', whether present wrongs or old ones. It's really pointless and poor judgment, to make some tit-for- tat argument that our side has committed fewer or lesser wrongs than the other side.
