Just been reported on BBC that if John Terry was found guilty of racial abuse, he could be fined £2,500.

May he apply for time to pay?

Would you still buy albums by Gary Glitter?

I mean, what if he has sex with 11 year old girls? His music still rocks, doesn't it?

Personally, I think 'Rock And Roll (Part 1)' is an awesome song, but because of his extracurricular activities, I wouldn't want to put money in his pocket by buying one of his CDs...
If Terry gets away with this it makes a mockery of the Kick Racism Out Of Football campaign.

Terry should've held his hands up at the time and admitted what he said was wrong and apologised but instead I believe he was wrongly advised to go down the defensive route and bluff his way out of it with excuses given to him by his advisors.

Is he a racist?...No

Did he make a racist comment?...Yes

And if AOG and others who think what he did was ok then football, apart from the wages, is still stuck in the 70's and 80's
sp1814 - this is a separate debate which i have joined in on each time it is raised on the AB.

Specifically, it concerns the morality of supporting the art without condoning the actions of the artist - a difficult moral issue.

I always cite the example of Wagner, a rightly renowned and respected composer whose raving anti-Semitism means his works are still not performed in Israel to this day.

I love Gary Glitter's music - and have all I would want which I bought before his fall from grace - but I would not stop enjoying his music because of what he has done, I believe it solves no real purpose. i would however draw the line at paying to see him in concert - as I say, a difficult moral question to which I do not have a definitive answer.

If he gets found not guilty by the court how is that getting away with it and how does that a mockery out of this jumping on the bandwagon "campaign"

I know whe you're coming from. Going to a Gary Glitter concert would look like a public statement of support, which has different connotations to listening to one of his old albums.
If someone shouts insults at someone else for having a big nose or ginger hair, is that as serious or not? If not why not?
If somebody called me a f****** white c*** I wouldn't be bothered to be honest.
If Ferdinand had said this to Terry he probably would have laughed at him.
It's all about some people being more sensitive to what they are.

Such a big fuss over nothing.
Hitler was a racist.
John Terry just has an alleged foul mouth...The legal profession just keeps getting richer.
