An attack of heterosexuality
Yes, you heard it right.
It would appear that this couple have been split up because they are a straight married couple, whereas in fact, they have been barred from sharing a room in the Olympic village because there are designated female accommodation and designated male.
However, it would appear that there are 'dozens' of gay athletes for whom this doesn't apply, because...well, because they are the same sex.
Interesting point - according to the chap, there are 'tons of gay couples on the Australian Olympic team'
Who'd have thought eh?
Is this really an attack on heterosexuals? Or has this story been spun out of the need to provide more fuel for the 'PC fire'?

The accomodation is designed to fit the majority of athletes, and I am sure that any couple, married, co-habiting, what ever, can manage a few days apart from each other in order to avoid being singled out for separate treatment, which hardly encurages the team spirit at the heart of the whole event.
I would suggest that single sex accomodation is simply a fortunate by-product for any gay athletes who may wish to continue - or perhaops even begin to cohabit during the Games.
heaven knows, gays experience enough predjudice in life, surely this one uniuntentioanl bonus should not be made an issue by a couple who, to be fair, are not citing that fact as their major objection - slightly overblown though their objection clearly is.

You know what - I was going to rebuff your 'chop' comment, but halfway hrough writing my response, I realise that you may have a point.
My chip concerns the way some sections of the media spin stories so as to wind people up, and I genuinely think that this story is without merit and only serves to ratchet up anti-gay feelings (one rule for them etc).
Fact is, this is a quirk which favours gay athletes, in the same way that the holiday company Sandals' rule that some resorts are for married couples only favours heterosexuals (note: I don't know whether they now accept civil partners).
So - I hope that clears up the 'chip' thing. What's your take on the story? Does the couple have a valid point?

Don't be so touchy, how did some homosexuals ever get to be called 'Gay', the ones I know are such humorists.
