We should put the foreigners who are rapists and pedos on a leaky boat back to where they came from. The foreigners who have killed people in our name should be saluted by everyone of us and given jobs and pensions and put to the front of the housing list.

Indeed, it would seem odd.
But the question is - what checks can the Border Agency perform on someone who has criminal convictions in their home country, if they say they're coming here on holiday or to visit relatives?
The difference is that these soldiers records are accessed when they apply for residency.
We should not confuse that with illegal immigrants whose previous criminal history only comes to light when they have recommitted a crime.

Wake up and smell the coffee sp.just read Gromit's and Zeuhl's comments, they are just two of many on AB who would rather have a go at a couple of innocent law-abiding right-wingers, than deploy the fact that Foreign killers, rapists, paedophiles and terrorists are allowed to live amongst us.

Venator,
This is a problem that has occurred on Teresa May's watch. She is not the most successful Cabinet Minister. She is even worse than David Blunkett who was useless. The Government are to blame for the way this soldier is being treated. Cameron should fire people who are not up to the job. Hunt and Osborne included. Considering they have two parties to choose from, the Cabinet is really lacklustre.

No - my question is about the country being under seige by some Liberal elite. The Conservatives are the majority party in the country. Major corporations are run with strategic monetarist policies, the banks and the City don't seem particularly 'happy clappy'.
If the judiciary (also not an establishment known for it's liberalism) is bound by the constraints of the ECHR, then it's not really their fault that these decisions are made.
But back to the original point I was making...is it right to compare the two stories where there are checks made in one instance, and not in the other?
What about this as an idea...we could implement a visa system whereby foreign nationals visiting (even for a holiday) would need to prove beforehand that they had no serious criminal convictions. Upon applying to the British embassy in their native country, they could then get a visa stamp which would either allow them to work, or come for a holiday.
The only problem with that is that it would require a change in the law so that it applied to EU residents too...and I think that would be extremely difficult to pass.
