How can you get children
fit and healthy if they keep on selling off the school grounds, those used for sports. It started long ago, but why is the coalition intent on making a bad situation worse. All very well to say the Olympics will leave a legacy for our children and their children, but it won't if they keep on selling off the land.
It isn't the only problem to do with children and fitness but it would be a start, to have a decent sports ground, either part of the school or nearby.

Parents should take their kids on activities.
As a child I used to do swimming, judo, dancing and gymnastics. Most of the time I cycled there. I got much more exercise out of school.
In my opinion parents need to cut the apron strings. Why are they driving their kids to school when it's less than a mile away?

i don't have a car. having to walk or cycle everywhere makes me fit (even if i am a little chunky!). my son has always had to do the same, although he has just purchased his first motorbike aged 19. consequently, he is also fit and enjoys exercise....and only really uses his bike to get to work (7 miles away) and to go on jollies) x
This is just a smokescreen, the real problem is junk food sweets, crisps, fizzy drinks etc , TV and games consoles.
all consumed, played and watched from the comforts of their own nice cosy warm bedrooms.
Until you get kids off of these you wont stand a chance in hell to get them playing sport out in the open , especially in winter let alone summer.
Its like asking a middle age couch potato to lose weight and keep it off, it require a change of lifestyle and for the vast majority it doesnt happen.

Please try not to expect sensible 'joined up' decisions from anyone in authority. Those who reach high office are the charismatic short termers who manage to achieve a lot using others to put on their CV, but whether it was for the better or worse was less important. We are doomed to have those unsuitable to make decisions make the decisions until a better system is invented.
JTP, you really are a piece of work, are you asking Abers to tell you how much they weigh now. This is a piece about children and keeping them healthy, and not selling off more school playing fields. Not a dig in the ribs to those getting on in years, some of whom languish on here. Heaven help us from the righteous.
