i am of an age whereby i remember the Moors Murders and the shock and outrage they caused at the time.
I deeply sympathise with the poor mother of Keith Bennett, and anyone connected to any of the poor mites in this horrible case.
But yet again this brings forth the bluster and wind from the self-rigteous brothers who attempt to outdo each other with their rage and wish for painful retribution avoided by 'soft' judges.
I have banged on ceaslessly, and will again, about the simple fact that our laws are what protect our civilised society, and the notion of 'torture' and inflicted 'slow painful death' does not help anyone, exept those who feel a thwarted sense of revenge and Biblical 'justice'.
The law of the land must apply to everyone. Making 'adjustments' based entirely on emotive reactions to crimes and criminals simply underlines the concept of the law and its purpose and effect - so cannot be allowed any creedence.
Before anyone leaps to post a response beginning 'So ...' which is usually followed by an answer that has ignored the point i have made, I would say that as a parent of three daughters, I would cut Brady into one-inch cubes with a rusty tin lid if any of my children were murdered in this way - but that does not detract from my point that the law is applied fairly and equally, which is what alllows our civilised society to continue.
It is by no means perfect, but certainly prefereable the vigilanteism that some would see replace it.
Gnashing teeth and wishing for a painful death for Brady is futile, and sends us on a dangerous slippery slope - we must instead turn our compassion to this poor mother, and let the law take its course, as it must.
