/// Max Bygraves was an immigrant to Australia. I wonder if the Aussie AOG complained about the influx of foreigners to that country. ///
What kind of person are you Gromit, totally out of order on a thread such as this to take the opportunity to get over your cheap AOG digs.
Save them for the more appropriate threads if you must, but please keep them off such sad threads as this.

With all due respect to Mr Bygrave's family...I have to say, I hate the cliche 'battle with Alzheimers', or 'brave cancer fight'.
Alzheimer's is a degenerative disease for which there is no cure. No-one ever battles Alzheimer's and 'wins'. Likewise, with cancer, you undergo therapy, take drugs and if the cancer is caught early enough, may survive.
The idea that we somehow fight, or do battle with these diseases suggests we are in control of our own destiny, whereas it's truer that these is a degree of randomness, for which we have no control.

If Bygraves had been a black rapper who had fathered six children with four different mothers then I doubt you would be saying we should respect him. More likely you would be saying he was a terrible role model. I just think fathers who abandon their children are lowlifes, whether they are scum from a sink estate or a millionaire crooner.
My thanks to the Daily Mail for filling in the details which wikipedia has deleted.
// 'For him, it is like I don't exist,' she told the Daily Mail. 'It's been heartbreaking.'
Bygraves, 88, worked as a singer, actor, comedian and TV presenter for almost 60 years. He married Blossom Murray in 1942 and they had three children, Christine, now 68, Anthony, 64, and Maxine, 59.
In 1987 Bygraves, who cultivated a wholesome, family-man image, admitted he was the father of Stephen Rose, born after a brief affair with actress Pat Marlowe in 1961. Miss Marlowe committed suicide 16 months after Stephen’s birth.
Then in 2002, it emerged that he had fathered another son, John Rice, now 65, during an affair with landlady Margaret Garriock four years after his marriage. The third love child, Mrs Sass, is the daughter of June Mack, who was an 18-year-old showgirl when she met Bygraves in the 1950s.
Despite his infidelities, Blossom stood by her husband, who showed little remorse and was even quoted as saying: ‘My outlook is that life is like a self-service restaurant and you have to help yourself. Sometimes when you see what the other fella has got, you want some of it too.’ //

I should stop digging if I were you Gromit, why the heck introduce colour into this, have you some kind of chip on your shoulders.
But since you mentioned it, I would not have posted on a rapper black or white, because rap is something that appals me, but say a great black singer such as Louis Armstrong had more recently died, and some of his past misdemeanours came to light, I am respectful enough not to choose to highlight them on a thread mourning his passing.
