A Dear Old Lady Who Deserves Help.

How sad is this story about this homeless little old lady, an ex classical musician now virtually sleeping on the streets at the age of 75?

I realise how stubborn and obstinate some people can be, but why can't she be helped in some way, especially, for example, when you look at the many millions of pounds and resources squandered on convicted criminals in a bid to 'rehabilitate' them?

Can't the relevant authorities reach out and help her?

She has money so doesn't really need any help, but regardless she has been offered help and accommodation several times but doesn't want it, unless you are going to lock them up you can't force somebody to live in a house or a flat.

I agree with chuck......why should the tax payer support a well educated woman who, for reasons of her own, has decided not to work but to opt out of society.

Such uncaring attitudes, guys. "She's this...she's that..." etc. So what? She's still a frail old dear of 75 who I believe still deserves some help. After all, apart from the amounts squandered I've already referred to, our authorities are also all too quick to bend over backwards to thousands and thousands of foreign scroungers arriving on our doorstep.

Why not look after one of our own for a change? Yes, she probably is a bit obstinate - many older people can be - and, yes, maybe she does have a few bob of her own, but should that override her obvious need for a bit of help and caring for in her old age?

I do find it very odd when lots of people here are virtually apathetic towards examples like this when a vulnerable old person needs help? No wonder we allow so much money to be squandered on the undeserving. Priorities are just plain wrong. Where has our sense of caring gone?

We do care, and if you think we don't you're very much mistaken. She has been offered help and it's been refused. Unless she is mentally incapable of making her own choices, what do you suggest we do? Short of sending people to take her away to put her somewhere that she doesn't want to be, we can't force her to accept help.

As we said on the other thread (and I agree with naomi ^), this woman is intelligent and has money in the bank, the lifestyle choice is hers. You can't force help on people who don't want it.

Obviously it would be far more caring to force somebody to do something against their will.

She had no home but had a car for 30 years? Sounds like her priorities were wrong. She didn't pay here mortgage so this has been largely self influcted.

i had a good mate, long term homeless, it was his choice, he didn't want to live in a home, house, hostel. When it came for the time to settle he did, though in truth it didn't last long as he died. that happens sometimes, especially when you add in long term alcohol, drug abuse.
