Having worked in schools the situation comes as no surprise
on the face of it no. but.... I have not seen the video, the Governors did.
I could never be a teacher.
he says he acted within the school guidelines. If that is the case, I would have thought not.
Me neither. Discipline is sadly lacking in schools.
another place - schools - where Political Correctness has run amock and leftie handwringing attitudes rule the roost
AOG

Unfortunately, this is another occasion where the Daily Mail has reported one side of the story.

We have no idea what the CCTV camera shows, so we are not in a position to verify what the teacher has claimed.

If the canteen was full if staff and children - could he not get a number of supporting witnesses to come forward to verify his version of events?
Well AOG, in my era, the boy would have been caned and that would have been the end of it.

Don't worry AOG, corporal punishment in schools will return.....but not in my lifetime.
What would the school governors have wanted him to do? How should he have reacted?

In days gone by teachers ruled schools, what they said went and pupils rarely gave cheek or answered back or they were in trouble

Nowadays the spoilt brats whose 'parents' have dragged them up to show no respect or manners to their elders rule the roost and teachers have no power anymore

It's a sad reflection on society in general these days in our uber-PC country
1) don't grab the pupil.

Fair enough, but if some little brat who had abused me and thrown a milkshake over me then proceeded to lift a chair then he should consider himself lucky if I just grabbed him.

Especially a banana one.
Been there, done that, got the T-shirt (but thankfully not the sack).
If my son behaved like this towards a teacher I'd march him down to the school and make him personally apologise

That would be after I'd given the unruly brat a backhander

That's the trouble these days, kids lack discipline so they think they can get away with what they like
In my day the teachers would twist ears and throw blackboard dusters at pupils. I don't suppose that's acceptable practice now.

Chalkboard duster Sandy, tut tut!
In my day the teachers would twist ears and throw blackboard dusters at pupils. I don't suppose that's acceptable practice now.

My P7 teacher, Miss McIlroy, could tell who was talking, even when writing on the blackboard with her back to the class and, in one deft movement, turn and unerringly propel the duster towards said talkative brat. We learned very quickly in her class.
Anyway, what 16 year old lad would be seen dead with a banana milkshake? Sounds a right wuss to me.
Apparently he was "fuming" instead of being calm and cool and defusing the situation. Who honestly could blame him.
