There may be another explanation - generally speaking, the LGBT community have a greater amount of disposable income, plus more time to socialise (because as a percentage, fewer gay couples have kids with the attendant huge expense in terms of time and money that having kids demand).
In addition to this, gay men tend to go clubbing for longer than their straight counterparts and when you add in extra spending power...).
As to the idea that drug-taking can somehow be a coping mechanism to deal with homophobia...not too sure about that.
I think it might have more to do with going out on a Saturday and enjoying 'party drugs'.
I say that because interestingly, the least sociable drug in the study is heroin...and heroin is the very opposite of a party drug.

I think you might be surprised at how gay men see themselves. Perhaps if you surveyed 100 gay men fifty years ago, there would be a much higher degree of 'guilt' amongst gay men, because of the illegality thing.
However, now the scene is a lot more different.
Of course, there are gay men and lesbians, who for whatever reason, have a degree of self-hate or guilt - but I am sure this is a minority.
The majority of same sex partners are besides themselves with gratitude because they're with someone who knows exactly what they want!
Win-win.

"Not all gay men have penatrative sex.."
Well, I bow to your seemingly obvious knowledge of that, daffy. However, your observation is wide of the mark in the context of my remarks which in no way made such an accusation regarding "all" homosexual males. It's those individuals who DO to whom my comments are attributed.
sp,
"..do straight men feel guilty.." etc etc
Are you making the assumption that I, as a heterosexual male, take part in anything but vaginal sex? That's a bit personal, ain't it? Especially when we hardly know each other! My mummy warned me about your 'type', ducky!
