OK, he fluffed his History whcih the media are slating him for, but every interview I have heard with our Septic cousins seems to indicate they find it refreshing that it was not scripted (as they thin a US Presidens woud be)

He didn't fluff the magna carta question, in fact he gave a complete answer about the date and what it meant etc, the only bit he didn't know was the transaltion of the words "magna carter". As for the hymn who knows who wrote a lot of these things. This is just a TV show host being an ar5e.
^ clearly never watched David Letterman
I think he was very brave to go on Letterman. He did OK. Of course Boris would have known the answer to the Magna Carta question but it's not really that hard to work out is it.
^^^He probably thinks that Letterman is Postdog's brother
from the sky news site:
"He was also at a loss for an answer when asked for the English translation of Magna Carta - Great Charter - and hesitated a while before naming Runnymede as the location of its signing.

But he immediately named 1215 as the date it was drawn up and was able to give an account of its importance in the birth of democracy."

so his crime was not to know what the words meant.

I do find it slightly amazing that he didn't know what "Magna Carta" meant. Don't they do Latin at Eton any more? :-) and slightly surprised actually that he didn't know who wrote the music at least for Rule Britainnia.
I was also astounded to hear not one but two Radio 5 Live presenters this morning talking about the "52" states of the US!
perhaps ichkeria but not knowing the translation is not the same as not having a clue what it was and that is how it is being portrayed in some circles. We all did latin but most of us forget most of it. Our school motto for example "Labor Omnia Vincit", I can just about remember that!
""Labor Omnia Vincit"

I know what that is, it's the story of the next UK General election!

I'm not denying the unfair nature of the reporting about Cameron, nor that he got the important bits correct, I'm just surprised that as a highly educated bod he at least didn't know that "magna=big"
magna = Great

have a go at my school motto!
so which were the two missing States then? Cuba and the UK? or Israel and Cuba?
Letterman is well known in his ability or propensity to catch people out. He can be quite funny though. I bet that most of the questions asked few here would quickly answer, and even less across the pond.
shame this wasn't on Letterman, and to think she was up for election

this comes from a Fox News reporter. That Sarah Palin thought Africa was a country, not a continent. God bless you, Carl Cameron, for promising an “avalanche” of Palin revelations that had been off-the-record until the election was over. She threw temper tantrums and was unmanageable. She didn’t prepare for her Couric interview. And did we mention that she thought Africa was a country, and not a continent? Wait until she hears about Australia: it’s both.
Letterman was bound to find a few chinks in his guest's armour, he always does. The Mucky Media of course always play up the bad at the expense of the good, so all credit to Cam for going on the show. And that's from a staunch Labour supporter.
"magna = Great"

Heavens, you aren't mike11111....etc etc in disguise are you :-)
Gin
White Wine (NZ)
Sauterne
Champagne

he would have got a bit rougher, but a more enjoyable ride on Jon Stewart's show, he is far and away the best America has to offer on satirical news reporting.
bit like Cameron, wrong thread!
Pehaps Cameron should have asked him a few question of his own.

Dave.
sorry, that last one didn't work for some reason.
