John Terry Guilty of misconduct

The Football Association charged Mr Terry on Friday 27 July 2012 with using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand and which included a reference to colour and/or race contrary to FA Rule E3[2] in relation to the Queens Park Rangers FC versus Chelsea FC fixture at Loftus Road on 23 October 2011.

Has he been charged twice with the same offence? Acquitted in a proper court and fined in a kangaroo one?

I'm not a fan of Terry particularly but I can't help thinking the FA have made a right hash of this. If a real court of law have acquited him then surely the FA should have abandoned this action.

Can anyone explain why it takes 4 days (5 in the actual court case) to discuss something that took just seconds on a football pitch.

The Magistrate said it was almost inconceivable that Mr Terry was innocent.

And yet, in the absence of clear recorded evidence, he was bound, very reluctantly, to enter a verdict of Not Guilty.

In other words ... I know damn well you are guilty.

sandyroe - The FA had to put their misconduct hearing on hold when criminal charges for racial abuse were preferred by the CPS.

Contractual misconduct and criminal racial abuse are not the same thing.

Terry admitted in court to using the words which were racial and abusive even if he did not use them (as he says) in a racist or abusive manner.

Just the use of the C word amounts to misconduct according to the FA, even if used in jest.

I would hope that the FA hearing was fair and square. It would be a pity to learn that David Gill (Manchester United Chief Executive) may have voted for the four-match ban on Terry, purely because Chelsea play Man U in a few weeks' time.

I would never suggest that though.
