Isn't it marvellous how opposing politicians can forget party politics and come together over such things, yet fail when it comes to the more important matters, which would be more beneficial for the nation as a whole?

There are some churches in the UK who WANT to perform same-sex marriages and what Milliband is proposing is a change in the law to allow that.

He's not proposing to force churches to perform these ceremonies.

Incidentally as I have explained before, I chose my username back in the days when AnswerBank was a much more friendly and less aggressive site than what it has become today.

It was taken from a TV programme where a panel of a more mature group of celebrities, discussed and criticised on the world today, but I never for an instant considered that one day there would be some amongst us who would use it in such a disparaging way, when they felt they were losing their argument.

Can I swing you ack to your original question...do you think that Milliband, whilst implementing a three line whip on the matter, isn't wholly concurring with government proposals?

You could argue, that this is a fundamental difference in the approach all three main parties are taking to marriage equality. I suspect the Conservatives have explicitly excluded religious ceremonies because of the massive problems that would rake up for churches.

Party politics are put aside when they need to be...and this just happens to be a situation where the parties largely agree with each other.
