Do we really wish to see a British Prime Minister act in such a way in public?

Can never imagine the great Premiers of the past acting in such a way, in actual fact their spouses generally stood insignificantly in the background.

Since then most PMs have felt obliged to show how uxorious they are (I'm hoping Octavius will be along to give me the Thatcher equivalent word). Snogging your wife is one thing, snogging your wife as a photo-op is something else, and not something I'm much impressed by.
Well researched Hopkirk, but you have now put me off my tea.
Notice that Blair was a little more subdued with Mrs Blair, but then it was a Guardian link.
Although come to think about it, it looks as if he is ready to pounce with a real smacker on the lips of Mrs Obama, most appropriate site 'Static Gum'.

/// People change, society changes, cultures change. Fact of life. What, precisely, is outrageous or disgusting about a man kissing his wife? ///
Who said it was 'OUTRAGEOUS' or 'DISGUSTING'?
This is no ordinary man, this is the British Prime Minister, on the World's stage, not just giving his wife a gentle peck on the cheek, but a full blown smacker on the lips, all that in front of an audience of millions.
There is a time and place for every thing but there is no place for it on the stage at a political party's conference, what was he trying to prove?
It would have been more in order for his wife to wait for him to come off stage and then given him a discrete kiss of congratulations at delivering a successful speech.

come on it's not like they are having carnal relations on the stage, it's a kiss it's what couples do. Suggest there are more important things to worry about where politicians are concerned. For example when will the economy get a kick start, when will they sort out the problems associated with the EU, and many many more.

So agree with Loftylottie, hope we never go down the American route of cringe-worthy cosy interviews of candidate and spouse and even the spouse being interviewed about their views on relevant matters. When Paul thingy was announced as the Republican VP candidate, the US contributors to the DM online site were orgasmic about his wife, she wears sleeves, hence she's a perfect American mother as opposed to Mrs Obama who often wears sleeveless dresses, the sl*pper!
The tone of your original post, and your subsequent posts, suggest that you found his actions distasteful or inappropriate or outrageous, AoG. Otherwise, why bother posting at all?
Others here have indicated their disapproval, either because they felt it was a deliberate political ploy, or because they felt that somehow such an action demeans the country.
I say thats rubbish. It was hardly a passionate snog. Hardly tongues, hardly simulated sex on stage. I am far more interested in the content of his speech that a kiss with his wife on stage.
And if the post was meant light-heartedly, you really need to work much, much harder if you wish to successfully convey humour, or irony.....

LazyGun, I assume the main purpose of Cameron's appearance at the conference is to sell himself as leader of his party and his country. Exactly what his feelings for his wife have to do with this, I don't know. I think the subtext here is actually an attempt to make him appealing to women voters: look at me, I'm a real family guy!
If I'm right, that suggests they take a rather dim view of women voters' intelligence.
