Wouldn't it be far better if he simply pledged 50Million to The British Legion, so that they can continue to help past and present soldiers?

Would it not make more sense for this to be delayed until 2018 to mark the end of the war???
I don't have an issue with the cost of it...except I think if you want to target kids, you need to engage them in a completely different way. Sending a select few to France to report back? I'm not sure that will work. If I were charged with engaging as many young kids as...

£50m is a drop in the ocean to the RBL. They are doing a great job.
We spent £90 million last year on health and welfare for the Armed Forces community - that's £1.7 million every week
We've committed £50 million over 10 years to help serving men and women who are wounded, injured or sick. The money will be used to develop the Battle Back Centre, an adaptive sports facility in Shropshire and to fund the operating costs of four Personnel Recovery Centres in the UK and a Personnel Recovery Unit in Germany. The facilities are part of the MoD's Defence Recovery Capability initiative, delivered in partnership with Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion, alongside other Service charities and agencies.

it might be irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, but it's still a hefty wodge of dosh, which im sure could be better spent elsewhere than taking a couple of grumpy teens to a muddy field somewhere, where they won't even bother lifting their heads from their mobiles to look at. They won't even care about the relevance of it all, its so far removed from what they (and us) are living in.
"spectacular?? oh dear, in 100 years it's 0.00042% of what we spend annually on work shy scum. Now that's spectacular! Why do people moan about a halfpenny when £50 notes are being burned continually? "
"yes humber the benefits bill is 120bn divide that into 50m, it's known as arithmetic, they used to teach it in schools."
The amount spent on benefts in 2011/12 was just over £158 billion of which just over £104 billion was for pensioners.

It is a spectacular, disgusting and cynical bit of political opportunism.
Cameron is trying to big up the one nation jingoism and union jackery which accompanied the Olympics and the Queen's jubilee just weeks ahead of the Scottish Independence Referendum. What utterly crass behaviour to link the memories of the fallen in the "war to end all wars" with the Queens Jubilee.
In any event, how sick does one have to be to celebrate the start of a completely pointless war which cost millions of lives. How can it be described as great?
I am sure many of our European partners will join in ...not.
