Well Anthony Watts (ex weather presenter) has spoken
What can we say
Willard Anthony Watts (Anthony Watts) is a blogger, weathercaster and non-scientist, paid AGW denier who runs the website wattsupwiththat.com. He does not have a university qualification and has no climate credentials other than being a radio weather announcer
"The Secret 28 Who Made BBC ‘Green’ Will Not Be Named"
is I'm afraid the stuff of conspiracy theory.
There probably are some facts at the bottom of all that, but when consulting the web for enlightenment on the issues of the day I prefer to steer clear of single-issue bloggers who aren't even up-front enough to admit that that is what they are. There's too much good stuff and life is too short to bother with such tripe. And the same applies to pro-BBC blogs also (if there are any!)
What would people such as the OP replace the BBC with, if anything?
I like my Sky TV I must say, and they do certain things very well, but they are very pricy! Nor do they provide anything like the range of services and information that the BBC does and in fairness to them they do not aspire to that and why should they.
I'm not a flag-waving type really but the BBC is one of those things that makes me feel good about Britain, which is something I'd have thought many "patriotic" right-wingers ought to appreciate.
One reason the BBC can do what it does for a relatively modest fee is because of the sheer numbers of licence payers. I know that is the reason many people hate the BBC but perversely that is one reason I like it. It binds together as a country and I also feel I have more of a stake it than I do Sky or even ITV, which answer primarily to the advertisers who pay the majority of their bills (especially ITV)
sadly the BBC that is now, is not the BBC that was, it's left wing bias, admitted by one BBC director recently is all too apparent. Very good article about this the other day, and many of the so called stars of the BBC are openly haranguing the BBC top tier managers, for ineptitude, wastefulness, and spending the public money like it's going out of fashion. They have too many fingers in too many pies, that was according to one journalist, possibly John Simpson.
Impartiality is a pain , isn't it? The BBC is expected to give airtime to every ignorant crackpot who holds to be false what is provenly true, in the interests of 'balance' and it doesn't matter what the supposed falsity is.
But is there any evidence that the BBC has failed to give climate change deniers the opportunity to put their case in response to those who think it does exist?
Yes I agree that it has issues - left wing bias of course is an old chestnut which rears its head from time to time and I'm afraid I don't agree but that's not the point, which is: what would one replace it with.
Or perhaps a McCarthyite purge would be suffice :-)
It always amuses me when people castigate the BBC for spending their money - who do they think pays for the far-larger-budgetted ITV companies - yes, that's right, good old Joe Public.
At least you can chuck the TV to avoid paying the license fee - you can't avoid contributing towards the ITV Companies' budgets.
That is, unfortunately, what we seem to be on the possible cusp to, ichkeria.
Look at this last week, I am not saying guilty or not guilty but look at what we have floating around on accusations. Not withstanding the Beeb, one bishop and a deputy, one Lord and now one dead MP in big Cyril, never mind the others that were pulled into the muck on the internet over the senior political figure...ie Ken Clarke and I even read Lord Mandy being mentioned.
