I suppose they are going by sentencing guidlines
He's got a much deserved life sentence. He'll have to serve a minimum of 5 years before he's even considered for release and might serve much longer.
What low sentence?
He's been jailed indefinitely.
Having said that , in this case , he could be held indefinately
It does say he has been jailed indefinitely. A first rewiew in five years doesn't mean that when he gets out.
But he has been jailed indefinitely. The chance of him getting out in 5 years is slim.
Question Author
did you not read the rest, reviewed after 5 years, so if he is a good boy possibly out on licence after that.
Hopefully after five years, they'll add another 25 on !!
Question Author
this indefinitely doesn't seem to work does it, why not state 10 years, no review, and do that time. imagine if she was your child.
Question Author
and just how do you determine the person is no longer a threat to the community.
so if he is a good boy possibly out on licence after that.

That won't happen, em. He will be behind bars for a long time.
Question Author
MT, how do you know?
He could start by shaving that dodgy beard off. He might as well wear a sign saying kiddy fiddler around his neck.
Which such a sentence he'd be always subject to recall to prison if his behaviour after release gave any cause for concern.
Question Author
how many times have you read of someone out on licence, or on bail, going on to rape some else, makes me wonder if we have our priorities right.
No, he's been given an indefinite sentence. The very purpose of these is that somebody who is a threat can be kept in jail for the rest of his natural if need be. What has been said is that he'll get a review after five years. There's no way he'll be let out then. If he'd been given a finite sentence, say ten years, he'd be out after six, with good behaviour, threat or no threat. This way he can be kept locked up until he's really safe to be around.

And good thing, too.
SeaJay has hit the nail on the head.
Absolutely sick man.
em this is the sentence you want ... we may well be in all this natural life, the indeterminate sentence is the only vehicle to achieve that aim.

These sentences have to be reviewed and every 5 years seems reasonable - it does not and never has meant he will be released at his very first review
just what SeaJayPea said. Indefinitely isn't a low sentence. It's about as near as they can get to "forever".
