I live in a relatively peaceful part of the country and have, in my pre-cat days, wandered around the local park in the middle of the night (plus one large dog).

But we are lucky - all it takes is for a nutter like this guy to spread fear and we all get nervous about going out. I don't think that crime is at a higher level than, say, 20 years ago but the media make sure that we know about it.

It doesn't happen so often around here, but it's certainly not unheard of.
I would never go out for a stroll in the dark on my own, these days.
It's a very sad sign of the times.

My kids great grandmother was born in Whitechapel and in 1881 when she was 2 her family lived at George Yard Buildings, a tenement block where one of the ripper victims was murdered.
