/pretty repulsive/

yes it is em

but not as repulsive as having your land stolen, your home bulldozed or being shot in the head by the IDF
nor being mortar bombed by hotheads who also kill innocent men, women and children. both sides are at fault, time someone actually sorted it out.
Thats a political cartoon, I had no idea it was holocaust day, I wonder if Scarf did?

The fact is that the "meja" pick their friends has something to do withit as a start, the fact he might lose the Jewish dollar is what Murdochs apology is about.

Nothing should have been said, we live in a free society and each to his own.
In that case em, a cartoon that takes a robust stance against one of the political leaders responsible for that situation should not be criticised on grounds of good taste.
i think it's repulsive, and had it been Jews being gassed in the ovens at Auschwitz, and someone depicted that in a cartoon i would find that as vile
It looks disgusting. I clicked on to this thread because I thought the word cartoon meant it was amusing. Nothing amusing here, and I really can't see the point of it.
/had it been Jews being gassed in the ovens at Auschwitz/

but it's not em! what's that got to do with the price of chips

/I really can't see the point of it. /

star - a simple explanation - it's a political cartoon lampooning Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu (not the jewish race) for his policy of continued expansion on Palestinian land backed by armed force and violence.

starbuck

please explain how you thought something 'anti semitic' might be 'amusing'
that whichever way you look at this, it's an unnecessary piece of propaganda, and that if anyone thinks it's anything but unworthy, nasty, then sorry i don't get the point.
cartoons don't have to be amusing, they can be satirical too.....and this one is.

The subject is fine if a little gruesome but that can appear with political satire. That, in itself, will be distasteful to some.

However, the timing of this one leaves a lot to be desired and, as has been implied, Wendi has made Rupee apologise already. There was also a meeting this morning between Newsday officials and the Jewish Council for a face-to-face apology.

End of matter but it will be one of those things that will roll on. Is there a Jewish equivalent of a fatwa to put on Scarfe?
Thanks for the explanation Zeuhl. I try to avoid news items if I can and I am sorry to say I did not understand what was going on. I decided a couple of years ago that I would not watch the news as it was so depressing. Before that I was a news junkie and would watch both lots of news besides reading the newspaper and even watching the world news. I decided at 82 I wouldn't watch what I could do nothing about and so stopped. Now approaching 86 so hope you will forgive my ignorance and thanks again for the explanation.
Cheers starbuck

/I decided at 82 I wouldn't watch what I could do nothing about/

I can appreciate that

best wishes
/it's anything but unworthy, nasty/

sorry em

i thought politicians were pretty fair game without people getting all precious on their behalf

especially when the politician in question has blood on their hands or at the very least has, as you rightly described, a share in the blame for a lot of bloodshed and misery.

/// It seems the moment anybody criticises Israel certain characters scream "Anti-semitism!!" ///

That sounds vaguely familiar, but coming from a different religious source.
doesn't make it any the less a nasty piece of work.
You're right em

Netanyahu is a nasty piece of work
AOG We are discussing the media and the impact of a cartoon.

Not criticism of a persons blatent prejudice.
the cartoon that is, depicting anyone this way.

/// AOG We are discussing the media and the impact of a cartoon.///

And when has anyone on AB ever bothered to stick strictly to the subject matter in hand?

Mr Scarfe's cartoon should have depicted Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal on the other side of that wall holding up a poster with his 'Death to all Jews' message in one hand and aiming a rocket at innocent Israeli's with the other.
That would have been more accurate.
