/// "But one of the reasons why I agreed to come to Paris is that I won't receive any salary. It will all go to a local children's
charity." ///

Since the Beckhams now live in England, why has he not only chose to play for a French team but also to award his salary to a French Children' Charity?

Surely if his dream is for one day to become 'Sir David', wouldn't it be best for him to play for an English club and donate to an English Children's Charity?

/// If so, you may have misunderstood 'charity' and the proverb, which was originally " Charity should begin at himself" [John Wycliff "To Prelates", in the C14] You should not allow yourself to suffer whilst relieving the same suffering in others. ///

I have read this over and over again to see if there is a 'twist in the tail', but no I cannot seem to find one, the proverb states exactly the point that I am making.

"You should not allow yourself to suffer whilst relieving the same suffering in others".

In other words "Look after one's own first".
In other words, don't be spending your money buying round after round for your mates in the pub while your wife and kids are sat at home starving.
Aog, "charity" is not "charitable gifts" If your own family are short of essentials; food, clothing etc; you should attend to that first. The proverb does not mean that you should spend any spare money, which you want to give away, on charities serving only British people, before giving any for the benefit of starving foreigners or any other charitable use outside the UK.

No doubt that Becks could team bumbling Dave and Nick a few things about money management.
I raise over £2,000 every year for charity .. I don't think there is any need to mention it ... oh too late ... hashtagbeckhamselfpromotion.
Altruism? Non.

seems that giving his salary away (and the 75% tax burden that accompanies it) is a no-brainer when set against the millions to be made from marketing deals, which themselves attract only 30% tax.
posh and kids will be in london and david in paris, he could come home every night, they have a helicopter and a heli pad, it would be quicker than the train from london to here
That interview in sir p's link confirmed my suspicion that Beckham did not have a clue about the charity he was so kindly donating his wages to.
he'd suggested the local team picked it and so why would he, don;t knock beckham he's amazing.
