wow, so it looks like it is Him, old Humpy.......
Just confirmed the DNA. and made the announcement that it is Richard
the Princes in the Tower thing has long time been...not disproved, but had very serious doubt cast....there is even a vintage novel about it, The Daughter of Time
YES - just confirmed! At least Leicester has one over Nottingham now! They only have a mythical figure in Robin Hood ..........
Being interred in Leicester Cathedral ............
To those Catholics out there, he should be buried in a place befitting an English king....and Westminster Abbey was Catholic at the time. This would be appropriate and there are enough Catholic Monarchs buried in there.....it would mean a special dispensation from the Queen. Remember that the Abbey is not, I repeat not, under the control of the Archbish of Canterbury. It is, like St George's Chapel, Windsor, under the auspices of the Queen............any marriage there has to have her permission, for example and, I presume, that accords to death as well. Alternatively, Leicester Cathedral would be befitting.
Wonderful news- now wait for the hoo haaa about where he does actually get buried:) Very glad the team underlined in no uncertain terms that they weren't wrong before the nay sayers got to work on them. Very well and concisely explained and pretty irrefuteable:)
Great day for historians- I'm taking the day off to celebrate:)
Nox - just announced its been agreed and confirmed by written consent that he will be re-interred in Leicester Cathedral ....... its live on Radio Leicester if you want to listen. A visitor centre will be built nearby and an exhibition opening on Friday at the Leicester Guildhall ........
This is extremely interesting even to one who is an anti-royalist (me). After all, it is a bit of history that is being confirmed instead of all the hoo-hah which usually surrounds it. As for where he is going to be interred I leave that to the professionals. Difficult one to say the least.
Its a great story . and a change in the history lessons at school ! I think this story will fill the papers for a few weeks. My sister in St Albans think I am `up north` in Birmingham.
No date given for re-interrment but starting preparations .........
I did wonder if Leicester would be prepared to let him go, he's their major tourism pull anyway. I think that's fair enough, I imagine that York will be a bit ticked off though since he had expressed a desire to be buried there, I think they had set their sights on him too. Really so pleased though, the DNa match was fantastic:)
The leader of the team said that the king should be interred in Leicester Cathedral, in accordance with the practice that remains are interred in the nearest consecrated ground. That rather ignores the status of the remains, though not every English king lies in Westminster.
Special programme tonight on channel 4 showing the unearthing of the body and all the findings and tests in detail, DNA, CT scanning, causes of death etc. Also facial reconstruction of the skull which will show his actual face.
Well, it is good publicity for archaeology, genealogy and genetics and, I guess, forensics.

I am here in my café, the owner being French and we are joking what would Louis VI look like if they dug him up. Would he be there, holding his skull alongside his skeleton?
Haha DT, wonder if Richard died with the local saying on his lips "Ay up me duck!" ;)
//the DNA match was fantastic //
Yes, great, because the living relatives who donated DNA this year were the last in their line, so it was perfect timing. A generation later and it would not have been possible - phew!
//Also facial reconstruction which will show his actual face// (ann)
Now that I find very interesting. Imagine being able to see a face that has long been gone, especially as there were only paintings in those days, notoriously badly done, or done to please the sitter. Fantastic!!
And it's taken Wikipedia a matter of moments to get it wrong!

//On the morning of 4th February 2013 it was announced to the world that remains found under a car park were indeed , beyond reasonable doubt, the remains of Henry III. //

Duh! - more haste less speed!
Yes Starbuck, the press conference is still going on ...... saying they are most excited at the face reconstruction which will be revealed for the first time tonight on the Channel 4 documentary.
