I'm a little bit ashamed that I live in a society that has made such a hooha about this and that people feel they have the right to tell us who to fall in love with and how some of us can declare this love through marriage and others can't.

Yes, based on the same religious canon that saw homosexuality as illegal, but the latter has been swept away in relatively recent times so why do the others remain in an increasingly secular society.
