""Pryce and Huhne could both be out of prison within two months under home detention curfews"

read my previous post, huhne knew exactly what he was doing, he has good legal people and they were probably spot on with what they told him to expect and what he would actually serve behind bars and where etc etc
em10. that is exactly why he will go to an open prison, in an open prison no one will touch him as they know that it would lead them to be put straight back in a closed jail and locked up 23 hours a day.
He is a 'High Profile Prisoner' ( or High Poppy in prison slang) the prison service will make sure he has an easy time, they can't afford the bad publicity that would result if he was harmed.
I am willing to lay a bet that he ends up in North Sea Camp , or Highpoint.
I worked in North Sea Camp teaching literacy. You have a key to your own cubicle ( they never call them cells) and there are no walls not even a fence you can just walk out if you want to. The reason inmates do not walk out is that they know that when they get caught it is straight back to a 23 hour lock up.

/// That's a bit unfair AOG, Huhne didn't get a chance to vote on going to war in Iraq - he was only elected in 2005 ///

Didn't mention Iraq, but no matter Huhne is a politician, and isn't it them who get us involved in these foreign conflicts?

for people like him, going to prison is no more than a minor setback, he has money and connections etc., not like Joe soap who goes to prison , loses job etc etc, comes out and lucky to get a another job, probably ruins their life in all sorts of ways.
Can't wait to see him on Have I Got News For You...
Eddie, if that is the case, and that is what happens, then the whole thing has been a huge expensive joke.

em10. that is exactly why he will go to an open prison,//

He's gone to Wandsworth

That's a long way from being an open prison!
Eddie said he will spend a short time at Wandsworth and then end up in an open prison for most of his sentence. I actually think he should stay put for the full term

"That's a long way from being an open prison! "

but its for a very short time until hes sorted and classified.

Its no more than a temporary holding prison for him.
Jake all prisoners go to a closed prison first , called a distribution prison, while they are there the prison service decide on the category they will be A,B,C or D and which jail will be the 'permanent' one. Huhne will be a cat D so eligible for open prison.
Cat D means low escape risk and a short sentence for a non violent crime. (it can also be a long term prisoner near the end of sentence) .

em10
All prisoners sentenced to 2 years or less are automatically released at the half way point . 2 to 4 years get automatic release at the 3/4 point , over 4 years means no automatic release , they have to apply for parole/ review and the judge will set a date that is earliest possible review date. This is where a lot of people get worked up at ' Short sentences' the prisoner will very rarely actually get a review at that date, it could be years later.
Very rarely does 'Life' actually mean life in jail only the very worst offenders (Ian Brady etc) get a 'Whole Life Tariff'
