Scared of what exactly?

That they could strike us or the US with a nuclear missile? - No I don't think so the'res a big difference between putting somthing in orbit and hitting a target on the other side of the world with an accuracy of a few hundred meters

That they could cause fear and panic in South Korea leading to all sorts of chaos - definately - Isn't that the whole point of all of this?

No.

"Can we have a poll "Should We Be Scared of North America (i.e. USA)?" to redress the balance ?

A far more warmongering country with an enormous arsenal of WMD, and a history of using them."

Er... No... Why do you think there needs to be "balance" between a free democracy and a totalitarian dictatorship slowly starving its people to death? There's no chance of the US starting a war on us, "the west", or, frankly, the hundreds of other countries run by, mostly, right-thinking sensible persons.

I find your call for redressing the balance distasteful.

Sorry. It's impossible not to upset somebody sometime on an open forum expressing personal views.
I don't think we need to worry about a country that has to photoshop hovercrafts landing on a beach to show it's strength. I might be concerned if I lived in South Korea.
Hmm

However there is every chance (given recent history) of the US starting a war which we get sucked into resulting in the deaths of hundreds of armed forces personnel

Wouldn't you say?

What are the odds of the US starting a war with Iran after they have developed nuclear weapons and missile technology and us getting involved in it?

50:50?

There may be no 'moral' comparison between North Korea and the United States but one has a much bigger track record or starting foreign wars than the other!
Not scared but an eye should be kept on him, a young wannabe ego is a hell of a thing.
Interesting replies from Canary42 and the Ed ...

I agree with the Ed that we have no fear that the USA will actually attack us

... but ...

... (you just knew there'd be a 'but' coming) ...

In terms of precipitating a global conflict which might wreck our comfortable 'western' lifestyles I think we do have much more reason to fear a cock-up by the heavily armed (and not always that intelligent) US military, rather than any threats from a "tin-pot dictatorship very far away".

I suppose, "technically", that is correct. I would suggest that they're not all that stupid and that we're unlikely to be pulled into any future "total war" situation which would seriously effect the "Western" lifestyle we lead.

True, you're following the stats there :) - the US certainly has a good card in International Fisticuffs Top Trumps.

Often the moral reasons for the "starting" of these wars shows good intentions - i.e. attempting to stop genocides or the subjugation of a peoples.

I'm not saying they're always right, but they're certainly not always wrong.
Yes because like Castro they could precipitate a global problem.
1. If they fire a nuclear weapon of any sort , in any direction , it will contaminate the atmosphere with radiation. W
2. It would undoubtably cause a war with S
yes It'll go with the thousands of tests already carried out modeller!
Unarmed deployment tests & underground warhead tests Danger.
No I'm thinking of the hundreds done above ground in new mexico, the pacific etc by US/France/Britain etc.
oh OK, rather blinkered of me. Thought this was about N.Korea, but I see your point.
Depends what you mean by scared.

Certainly not scared for my own saftey but am I worried that this lunatic could de stablize the world just when we dont need it.

China may be annoyed with him, but even they dont seem to be able to control him.

No, he cannot do that much damage to the US, but then they probably would not flatten Nth Korea as some are suggesting. I think any attempt by him to nuke somewhere, even with a dirty nuke, could prompt other countries with lunatic dictators or mad mullahs to also strike.
2. It would undoubtably cause a war with S Korea which would involve China and the US , exactly like last time.

Last time was not a US v NK war . It was a united Nations war against N Korea after N K invaded the south. They were repulsed right back and then China joined in on N Ks side .

This could easily happen again and with a boy lunatic in charge it's a disinct
possibility unless China can restrain him.
He's an idiot who's playing with peoples' lives. He's doing nothing for his country but have the people there living in fear. http://tinyurl.com/cxws3sg
Noth43, I was addressing modeller's rather silly statement about contamination in his 12:42 post.
