Would disrespectful cartoons such as this be allowed if other political dignities such as Nelson Mandela happened to die?

Nelson Mandela is not perceived as divisive, but divisiveness is not the point of the cartoon. The point is that Mrs Thatcher did like the state, or local government, being in ownership or direct control of industries. Therefore, her wish, put one way, would be that her own funeral would be entirely in the hands of private companies, the best offer, and preferably the cheapest one, being accepted. As it happens, rubbish collection was something which local authorities dealt with by putting collection out to private tender. So, there's a juxtaposition in the cartoon.

And so there's nothing offensive in the cartoon, seen that way.

It's a moot point, because Nelson Mandela, like Mother Theresa and Dr Martin Luther King, are almost universally respected.

Baroness Thatcher, whichever way you lean politically, was an extremely divisive character.

There are many people who genuinely hate her.

I don't think you could say the same for Nelson Mandela (unless of course, you're someone who hankers for the days of apartheid).

It's another in a vv long line of starical political cartoons, and stands on its own on its merits, whether the reader agrees with the statement doesn't detract from the argument extolled by the cartoon.

the cartoon makes no reference to the WoD

it alludes to the privatising of 'state' services to the lowest bidder and a subsequent lowering of standards

as a subtext, it appears that the private contractor has an old coal mine to use for body disposals

I didn't like Mrs T Because of the amount of people she caused to lose their livelihood, but I agree with you aog that is totally disgusting & OTT. There is absolutely no need for cartoons like that & I for one would like to see the person responsible prosecuted.
