Shari, as stated, I was in three blocks of, mostly Muslim, foreigners in Chelsea and Fuham. They were all well off and some were professionals as well. Strangely, I only sold each flat and moved on to the next because others offered me good profit and I felt like a change; I am like that, cultural; but it never concerned me that they had different religion, colour, or practices to mine (dismaying as mine often are). I had trouble with the handful of few, white,old resident, Hyacinth Bucket types, with their strange ideas of what ' proper' people did, who, notoriously but typically, were only pacified by the belief (in their minds) that I and my family had the background and status which they aspired to. It's a rubbish attitude and far more alien to me than they're being a Muslim, and not British, white, Christians, would ever have been.
That's why I ask why the objection to immigrant neighbours. To me, a good many British are objectionable, but I wouldn't move because of it.

London and the bigger cities have always been like this. It has happened down the years going way back whenever there has been a wave of immigration. My East End family moved up in the world and settled in Southall in the 1930s. In the 50s and 60s as local manufacturing declined and the first in the family got a higher education the step up for them was moving further out into Herts and Bucks. Many of the Asian families who moved in after them have done exactly the same thing. You now have the situation in some parts of London where previously run down areas are reverting to the the middle class which populated them back in Victorian and Edwardian times. What goes around comes around.

I live on the Moors ( Clee Hill area) in Shropshire Tony, but my dad has a lot of property in Birmingham as well as elsewhere so I have spent a fair amount of time in Sparkhill. We've also lived in London and try as I might I can't get wound up about anyone's colour or religion alone. As Fred says I can find enough indiginous white British people to fall out with if I really want a fight.
