Anyone see Panorama? Sol Campell skirted round the subject but never really reached any theories or a conclusion. Any thoughts?

All the shops were linked with a walkie talkie where security could call the shops and let them know of a known shoplifter (or other problem) in the shopping centre.
Every time a gang of black people (men or women or mixed group) entered the shopping complex word was sent round warning all the shops.
I am afraid their reputation goes before them.
ps. Years ago Aretha Franklin had a song called "Respect" which was asking for respect for the black cummunity.
I am afraid you dont get respect automatically you have to earn it.

With regard to 'reputations', I suspect that someone would have to have some degree of learning difficulty if they made blanket decisions based on race when hiring people.
I hire IT professionals all the time, and my number one consideration is technical skills, followed by specific aptitudes, work experience and enthusiasm.
I would have to be the biggest sort of jerk to let race be a factor.

that many don't take the opportunities afforded them early on in life, that certainly some prefer to hang out with their mates than knuckle down to school, and that some have no aspirations. Having said that there is no reason they cannot achieve, if only some weren't led by peer pressure.
I am pretty sure there are plenty of reasons not given in the programme.
One thing that didn't come out of it, or perhaps it did and i missed it, is that many young black men, as well as white have no decent role models, those to aspire to, look up to, and venerate as high achievers, not just in the field of sport. They should look to the likes of Mo Farah for their lead, inspiration, sadly some seem semi illiterate and ill educated, and for that in a nation that supposedly prides itself on it's educational system is a massive failure. But young people of all hues need family support and if that isn't there, then some won't make it as they have no one to measure themselves to. We need these young people to be better educated to be the doctors, scientists, teachers of the future, if that doesn't happen, then they are sadly consigned to the unemployment line and remain unemployable.

There is certainly some truth in what em10 says.
Last night at the same time, there was an amazing/depressing/shocking (delete where appropriate) documentary on CH4 called 'Skint'.
I urge everyone with access to 4oD to watch it.
It revealed something I've never really considered - there are whole swathes of the country (and this isn't race specific) where the 'idea' of work is an alien concept. In addition to this, there are hundreds of thousands of kids who are handicapped from birth because they are born into families where hard work and responsibility have never made themselves know.

I think the idea of role models is overstated, there are plenty in the public eye. Those in the public eye are rich and famous, and therein lies the main problem that I have found when interviewing.
Many youngsters (black, white, male or female) want a quick fix fast buck route to celebrity lifestyle, otherwise whats the point of long years of training and qualifying? Hardly any of them want to start at the bottom and do the grafting when they don't have the skills or qualifications. Of couse I am aware there are exceptions.

name one famous British black doctor, teacher, professor, politician, someone who really has made a difference to people's lives, those who should be role models for young aspirational young black men. there are plenty in sport and music, sadly that doesn't always last... we all need a boost to get us where we want to go, a good teacher, a caring parent, one who knows how to get the best out of the child. There is a a lot to be said for the reasons why we don't have those in our midst, but it's down to good black role models to come forward and contribute - if you think it's hogwash then fine, it's just how i have seen some young black guys of my acquaintance..

Neither will there ever be with all these types of debates, until there comes a time of straight talking, even if it does happen to highlight some of the bad side as well as the good side.
To have a balanced debate on black v white issues, one should expect criticisms of blacks as well as criticisms of whites, if each are open for criticism.
As I have said in an earlier post, some would rather criticise their fellow countrymen rather than criticise someone foreign, especially on AnswerBank.

That was a simple observation by mikey 4444 of mathematical truth
Your inability to deal with that rationally without recourse to silly jingoism rather suggests that 'straight talking' and 'balanced debate' are not your personal strong points
