The whole conflict is becoming so barbaric. Its an unverified video source so its difficult to know just how much credence to place in the report - but Human Rights watch certainly believe its true - that one of the rebel commanders was filmed cutting our the heart of a dead soldier and biting into it.......

This is the very height of barbarism, and must surely be a war crime...

It's reaching a stage where I can no longer watch. Wrong, no doubt, but I simply can't. Man's inhumanity to man ..... :o(
it isn't understandable at all, no common decency, no moral compass to say this is another human being, to brutally murder people, to despoil their bodies alive or dead, i know i am not overly squeamish, but i have seen things i don't wish to see again, and in this internet age one can view the most ghoulish images imaginable. You can't forget images of Belsen, or Auschwitz, nor of mass graves and slaughter in Rwanda, so why do we really think that man is going to behave any better elsewhere, it's barbaric.
em, it's the industrialisation of death in Auschwitz that made it horrendous (for me, anyway). Bulk buying of lethal gas, building of railways and so on. This doesn't have the same effect on me.
"This was an isolated incident. (His) actions do not represent the FSA. His actions only represent himself," al Sayed said. "This is not just a normal person who sits home. He has had two brothers killed. His mom and dad were detained, and the rest of his family displaced."

By no means am I supporting this act (I refuse to play the video) and it's disgusting and horrible. But not so easy to condone violence against someone you feel has wronged you when it actually happens, is it?

That was directed at people in another thread, but no doubt they'll see this at some point. All who call for criminals to suffer horribly are, effectively, calling for this sort of behaviour to be played out more often.
Talking of other threads. Are you sure you want us to keep aiding the rebels, jim.
...

For every horrific act such as this there are maybe ten times as many civilians suffering. We missed our chance to help one side or the other long ago. I'm advocating a peacekeeping force, not direct support of the rebels. Besides anything else, it would be in part a proxy war with Iran.

I was calling for support of the humanitarian kind. This changes nothing.

@ jim the video is just a news report, does not actually link to anything graphic.

I would hope such actions are a one-off. Whilst I can only imagine the depth of hatred someone might have over their families being killed, but I still do not think that excuses such behaviour.
the news on channel 4 showed it with pixilated images, it would seem that is what he was doing, barbarism. we shouldn't be arming anyone, humanitarian aid i can understand but not giving the rebels weapons of any description. And as was rather chillingly pointed out, that if the rebels were to overthrow Assad what happens to all the weapons he has stored, that could be used against their enemies, truly mind boggling.
