/// As for what is rich AOG - I think it's rather rich to find the Mail standing up for the work ethic of British workers. ///
And where pray in this report, is the Daily Mail standing up for the work ethic of the British workers?
Even in your link they are neither standing up for the British workers or criticising them, it is merely a report on a radical reform of employment law being considered by David Cameron.

AOG - I wouldn't argue with the examples given in your second paragraph, but Bercow was answering questions about immigration to the the UK, not from it.
Jake - yes we must. Disenfranchisement is indeed an issue.

not that old nonsense about people doing a job such as providing training not doing 'real work' because they aren't developing callouses
I occasionally deliver professional training sessions to groups of 20+ for 8 hours
and I have in the past spent 8 hours a day loading and unloading trucks
I can tell you which is the most demanding and tiring - and it isn't the latter

i thought i would get better acquainted with Speaker Bercow. interesting perhaps, it is wiki so who knows whether completely accurate.
Bercow was born to a British Jewish family in Edgware, Middlesex.[2] His paternal grandparents were Jews who arrived in Britain from Romania a century ago. The son of a taxi driver, Bercow attended Frith Manor Primary School in Woodside Park, and Finchley Manorhill, a large comprehensive school in North Finchley. In his youth, Bercow had been ranked Britain's No.1 junior tennis player. However, a bout of glandular fever ended his chances of pursuing a career as a professional tennis player.
