I truly believe that (maintains a straight face).

That being the case - should they be encouraged to organise a 'Not In Our Name' march in order to distance themselves from the recent rise in attacks on Muslim mosques and schools.

There is no evidence to suggest that the EDL are in any way responsible for these recent attacks, but if it turns out that these arson attacks have been carried out by people associated with the EDL, or heaven forfend, the BNP - is it not sensible to demand that they take to the streets to protect their good name?

(Wow...I was able to type that last sentence without my finger pads bursting into flame - wonders indeed will never cease).

Em, if they're protesting against the same thing, no attack could possibly be justified. That's my point.
More tea and biscuits is what is required, on both sides. If we all made an effort to get to know each other, perhaps we would get on a little better.
how do you know that some want to get to know their neighbour whatever their background, ethnicity, some prefer to keep themselves to themselves, that includes people from the so called ethnic minority community.
and next time sp you say you have no problem with white people being in the minority i hope that you would consider your words and how that impacts on people who are offended by it.

Good point - although I suspect the EDL would still be able to find fault.

As someone else has rightly stated, perhaps we shouldn't speculate - but the increase on attacks on Muslims have made speculation very tempting...

Oh bless em10 - I have zero idea what you mean. However...umm ...it was forcefully put.

More power to ya.
The fact is the EDL aren't going to do this, and we haven't seen anything similar from muslims either over the years. We're left to draw our own conclusions.
This is a straightforward question on gree speech innit ?

Should Edl be allowed a right to express their views (as we all are )?

and the answer is an obvious YES

or am I missing something? [ Finger pads still not alight )

Should other groups be allowed the right of free speech to say
'rise up and kill your imperialist masters who are killing liddle babies in foreign lands - your children.... ' etc. I am not sure: I think the answer is yes they should be allowed to demonstrate, but then there is a problem when hot-heads erm go and do it........[ rise up I mean ]
For Gods sake Em ! All I am asking for is that people try ! I had a tour around my local Mosque last summer and it was very informative and interesting. Others should try as well.

Free speech?

Sorry - I think I may have not expressed my original post correctly. I'm referring to physical attacks...
SP, Be rather more difficult to find fault though, wouldn't it. ;o)

I know what Em means – and actually colour isn’t the issue here at all – but culture is. Big difference.
sp, you said quite clearly on another thread not so long ago, that you would have no problem if white people in UK were in the minority, one doesn't forget something so offensive, at least i haven't.
mikey
if people want to get around the table as i have already said and parley it's fine with me, some don't want to, from all of our communities.

em10

No. You are wrong.

I said that I had always grown up in very racially mixed areas, and that the influx of new immigrants didn't bother me as that is all I'd ever known.

I went on to say I would find living in a 100% white area or 100% black area or a 100% gay extremely dull as I like being amongst a mix of people.

That is what I wrote.

I believe you've misremembered - it was a long thread with many contributors.
It takes courage to stand up and be counted. Perhaps the ELD leadership, if there is such a thing, are afraid that they could become the next target for the arsonists if they speak out.
Question Author
By the way em10, even if someone says they don't mind whites becoming a minority in a given area, it doesn't mean that they want it. It simply means that they aren't bothered.

I wonder is that still offensive?
Sp and would they assume the same if you put blacks instead of whites...makes me wonder if some might consider it racist..just a thought in today's climate!
no you didn't, it wasn't that long ago, and another party on here would remember it, because i made the remark that had i said i have no problem with gays being in the minority, or didn't exist, something like that, it would be offensive, which it would be, i have a very good memory, and i don't misremember things.
Please remember to back-pedal before a gear change.
and for what it's worth i did find it offensive, very few things get to me, i generally have more important things to concern myself with, but that comment did.
