Trooping Of The Colour

With the rest of the Royals in Military uniform, does anyone know why Prince Andrew chose not to wear the similar?

Even Prince Edward managed to find one for himself, even though he was pushed out of the group photos.

He's retired from the Active List of the Royal Navy. On retirement he was only given the honorary rank of captain, rather than the substantive rank which is customary, according to Wikipedia, and he also holds the honorary rank of rear-admiral. If he's not also the colonel -in- chief of some regiment, it may be that he is not entitled to wear the uniform

Ah , well, that that's that theory refuted ! The Princess Royal turns up in uniform, presumably because she is a colonel-in-chief, so it's still a mystery

As Earl of Wessex Edward takes the honorary title of Colonel in Chief of The Wessex Yeomanry. He is entitled to parade in that uniform. (of all the Royal he's the one I dislike, as seems apt today, he's the Blackadder of the first series, toadying, obsequious turd!)

The Duke of York is Colonel-in-Chief of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers, the Royal Irish Regiment (27th (Inniskilling) 83rd and 87th), the Small Arms School Corps, the Yorkshire Regiment (14th/15th, 19th and 33rd/76th Foot) and Colonel of the Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Btn Royal Regiment of Scotland.

By the same rights as his brother he can wear the uniforms of any of the titles above and has done in the past, I assume respecting his Naval career he respect the service division and does not parade in uniform as Trooping the Colour is essentially an Army tradition and an Army Parade.

In my view he has the right to wear any Uniform with pride as a retired, active line officer, like Charles and the two currently serving Princes, Edward couldn't even pass out at Sandhurst!

I feel embarrassed seeing Edward in uniform. Having said that he must be doing something right, he's the only one of the Queen's children not to be divorced.

Didn't stop Prince William wearing an Army uniform, even though he is in the RAF, or even Prince Charles for that matter, seeing he was in the Navy.

"Both young Princes were initially commission into the Blues and Royals, The Household Cavalry Division. The Duke of Cambridge chose the RAF as his career service.

During the Trooping of the Colour, his wedding etc he traditionally wear the Uniform of the unit he holds highest rank. He is Colonel of the Irish Gurads so wears that uniform however, I believe that if you look at his uniform he only wear the rank insignia commensurate with his substantive serving rank ie Captain ( could be wrong about this but remembering Staff College thats the rules) "

The Prince of Wales has honorary 5 star rank in each service, therefore as an Army parade he wears the Uniform of Field Marshal. His first appointment and by title most important is Colonel in Chief of the Royal Regiment Of Wales means his uniform is that of the Welsh Guards. He wears the uniform of of Marshal of The Royal Air Force on Royal Air Force related duties but at most occassions, ie The Cenotaph and other ceremonials he will wear the uniform of Admiral of the Fleet following his military service

The last few times Andrew's been on parade, I'm pretty sure he's been wearing non-military stuff. I've no idea why.
