A new group calling itself Islamic Emergency Defence (IED - which also stands for Improvised Explosive Device) has been launched. Its slogan is ‘Beware the Lions of Tawheed – Defending the Muslim Community’ - (Tawheed means attributing Oneness to Allah and describing Him as being One and Unique, with no partner or peer in His Essence and Attributes) – and its purpose is to defend the Muslim community – but against what?

Julie Siddiqi of the Islamic Society of Britain called the group “inflammatory”, but Anjem Choudary greeted the IED’s arrival by tweeting “Good news with the launch”, and saying that it had “risen to the challenge”. What challenge?

mushroom...if you read my post you will see that am doing nothing of the sort. Words like "not defending" and "not supporting" are quite clear. I can't see the point of adding to posts here on AB if people don't read them properly !

I was merely answering naomi's original question. She asked what Muslims might be seeking defence from and I answered it.

Let me say it again....I do not support this and most certainly do not support Anjem Choudary. I think he is a dangerously inflammatory idiot and should be put away for something. Let me know if this is not clear and I will try and explain my views in an even more simple manner !
Noami24,

It is in common usage. Similar to this one...

// West Brom and its surrounding areas are swarming with Poles. //
i have never ever heard that term, not in common usage.

Gromit, ah, I see. Your own little play on words.

Em, he's referring to something someone wrote yesterday.
are you deliberately spelling Naomi's name wrong, Gromit?
Maybe it is response to nutters like this...

// A 75-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing an explosion likely to endanger life or damage property after a home-made bomb exploded near a mosque.

West Midlands Police said the man was arrested at his home in Walsall this afternoon by detectives from the counter-terrorism unit. //

Gromit, I'll ask again. Just how do these people propose to defend Muslims? What are we looking at here? Battles in the streets?
Naomi24

I can see nothing on the IED website calling for street battles?

// This does not mean that Muslims should become hooligans themselves or resort to mindless violence like the perpetrators; however, he should neither remain passive. //

I read that to mean if they attacked, they are allowed to defend themselves. Which is true of any of us.

/// Maybe it is response to nutters like this...///

// A 75-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing an explosion likely to endanger life or damage property after a home-made bomb exploded near a mosque.

And on the other hand this 'nutters' response, (which fortunately caused no deaths), could be in response to the 'nutters who allegedly killed that young soldier?
Question Author
But are they entitled to call upon people who haven't been attacked to help in that defence - which is what this organisation seems to be offering?
well the police smack the EDL at every turn just for being, they can't go near mosques, just in case they incite a riot, so some think, yet they are not afforded that luxury, do you not see the idiot double standards here. Defend themselves against what, majority of people in UK are law abiding, you have said as much yourself, so if their are militias of any kind, they should be stamped on pretty damn quick. The police are there to uphold the law, one should let them do their job,

Sorry, cross-posted. That ^^ was to Gromit.
it's ok, i know..
did you read further down the page, Muslim convicted and sent to jail for downloading bomb making information..
A POSTMAN associate of Anjem Choudary was behind bars last night after he was convicted of downloading bomb manuals.
Mohammed Benares — Benny to sorting office pals — had 53 al-Qaeda magazines and seven “Jihad” documents.
They detailed how to make a bomb “in the kitchen of your Mom” and how to use an AK-47.
Records showed he had texted Choudary, London’s Southwark Crown Court heard.
Benares, 44, of Birmingham, denied possessing terror information, saying he was only curious to read extreme views.

Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith QC said jail was inevitable. He will be sentenced next month.

// This does not mean that Muslims should become hooligans themselves or resort to mindless violence like the perpetrators; however, he should neither remain passive. //

Also I can see nothing on the EDL website calling for racist attacks, why are you only prepared to defend one side of a story?

/// I read that to mean if they attacked, they are allowed to defend themselves. Which is true of any of us. ///

Oh so you are actually defending the attacks on Mosques etc, in retaliation against the killing of one of our soldiers?
I wonder what this group will do in the long periods of times when their mosques arent 'under attack' from petty vandalism? Will they have endless committee meetings, deciding on the final logo design? Who is baking the cup cakes for the Bolton & district table-top sale?
they don;t look like the ladies of the W1
//Muslims must respond and do whatever they can, within the boundaries of Islam, to defend and protect each other from harm.//

Why within the boundaries of Islam. Surely it should be within the boundaries of the law. The same law that applies to everyone in this country. The law that led to the arrest of the 75 year old man and protects Muslims by preventing the EDL from marching past a mosque. - That law!
