It seems that we have had a narrow escape. We nearly had to change August Bank Holiday to Margaret Thatcher Day ! Don't get me wrong, we were glad of our extra Bank Holiday in March this year here in Wales but that is as far as it goes please.

I also live in Wales but hadn't realised there was an extra Bank Holiday this year. Was it for St David's day? I have retired so doesn't matter to me but certainly wouldn't have missed it last year!
Being a Scot my partrner and I were incensed at the idea!! what a load of rot!
It was a ridiculous idea.
The economy is in the toilet, the NHS benkrupt and our infrastructure is crumbling to bits.

And our politicians are busying themselves with this pointless nonsense. No wonder the electorate are diinterested in this self seeking rabble.

Fortunately, in 1979, there was somebody who was there to save us from the malais. Unfortunately, there are many (too many) who either don't, or refuse to remember, what the UK was like in 1979. I stiill do.

Hands up anybody, really, who would have preferred Kinnock? Really?
TheBaBas,

Do you not think there are more pressing matters to be dealt with? Rather than waste parliamentary tiime on stuff like this (and the pointless Referendum vote) they should be working on how to get us out of this mess.
I couldn't agree more Gromit if I tried.
Only a Bone Head could come up with this idea .
I'm still not sure whether the guy (Bone) that proposed the idea was just taking the p15s or not. I wouldn't be surprised if he did it to win a drunken bet or something.
This might explain things, from his Wikipedia entry...

// He is regularly one of the ten most active MPs in Parliament, in terms of Questions asked and other contributions. However the quality of those interventions was questioned in a 2006 Times article about the Theyworkforyou website. Bone was one of three new attention-seeking MPs specifically mentioned who boosted "their ratings on the internet by saying very little, very often." //
I'm about as 'Thatcherite' as it's possible to get (except that she was a little too Left-wing for me!) but even I wouldn't have supported that idea!
Bone is total brown-noser who wouldn't know what taking the p*ss was even if he was wearing a colostomy bag
Unfortunately, in 1979, there was somebody who was there to make life worse by never questioning their idiotic idiology even when it was obviously in error. Kinnock ? Sure. Anyone other than who we were stuck with would have been an improvement.
Imagine Thatcher Day in Liverpool? Chaos. They would be burning effigies.

(Ex pat scouser by the way)
doesn't the Tory MP who suggested this change realise that a significant proportion of the population detested her?!
Not many MPs have any idea of the mood of the country!

//a significant proportion of the population detested her//

Back in the day I believe they were called the Losers!
Or labour voters as they were known.
]I reckon that Old Geezer voted for her ,but did not tell anyone?
