It is not that the BNP and UKiP are alledgedly similar that is significant. It is the fact that Conservatives and UKiP are that is revealling.

Labour is taking a big risk here, in biting the hand that feeds it. But affairs have come to a head and, in the fullness of time, the boil must be lanced.

The BBC link points out that this may be a career move. The MEP for Wales's job is up for grabs and UKIP would gladly take an experienced politician to fight for it. And because the European elections are not 'first past the post' , which UKIP could never win at present, UKIP already has seats in that parliament.

What reason did that Tory MP who switched to Labour (and, no doubt, took his butler and other staff with him) give for his switching sides? Of course it was "New Labour" then. Now it is "Real Labour".
