10Th Death By Police Taser.
// Eye-witness Lee Wilkie, 25, who lives nearby on Mount Road, said: "Three Transit vans came storming up to the house then they bashed his door down and you could hear all sorts of shouting and banging.
"I think he's been Tasered inside and then the ambulance came outside his house. A bit later he came into the street but something happened again and they started giving him CPR in the road.
"He was a good lad, a quiet lad, and he was very well-liked. People around here are just in total shock and really angry as well, why did they have to Taser him?" //

What are your views on Tasers?
Are Tasers safe?
Are they being properly used?
Are they being over used?
Are they being used as first resort instead of last resort?
Is 10 deaths acceptable?

@Em Always wise to be sceptical about the source of a news story. I posted that one because you asked for links, and this was the first one i found when i did a google search...
In this instance, is there a reason though why the source of the story taints the facts as reported? Do you find the article especially biased, or lacking in fact somehow? Must confess i have never heard of the agency in question..
I had a brief look at the cases mentioned. I was not there, I have no knowledge about the circumstances of any of the cases. Maybe use of the taser was justified. Maybe not; It concerns me though that there is a danger that tasers will become used outside of the guidelines.
One of the stories highlighted in the seperate box was this;
"A 14-year-old boy was drive-stunned in York for resisting arrest."
The procedure known as "drive stunning" is a pain compliance technique - using the taser to generate pain in the recipient. US guidelines recommend that this technique be avoided since it is not usually all that useful, and may actually exacerbate the situation by inducing rage in the person being tased.
Not sure I am at all happy knowing some members of the UK police force use such measures on 14 years olds.......

@Em. Most media outlets have an editorial agenda, which is wise to be sceptical about any story.
Given that in the other stories mentioned in the side-box mentioned the aggravating factors that might have prompted the tasering; Carrying a screwdriver, armed with a knife, etc - It seems reasonable to conclude that the one sentence story about the boy in York was as stated - no aggravating factor like a knife or a gun, otherwise they would have mentioned it, surely?
Not sure about the 10 deaths thing - have not looked into it properly. Reports from the US suggest as many as 538 taser-related deaths- but again no idea of the exact circumstances.....
