Why can't these gangs really try and get on with each other, do they have to carry on against each other, even when they are on holiday?

One has to ask why would a 19 year old a male model who is studying towards an Economics degree at Northampton University, need to be in a gang?

1. Machoism

2. Low self esteem
Do you think it is only the under privilged and poor that may join gangs then? You seem surprised that this young man has joing a gang - why is that?
Stupid waste of a life.

Belonging to a gang, whether it is a street gang, or a football gang, is a tribal thing. Anyone not in that tribe is an enemy. Completely stupid, but human beings are wired up that way, probably for survival thousands of generations ago.

Are you saying that since there seem to be more gangs, especially the violent ones among black persons, (even the well off and educated ones) they still have not got rid of their tribal instincts?

If so I am glad you associated it with tribalism, and it wasn't me.

I would have thought that that would be completely obvious to most, do professional people join street gangs, or anyone else who is educated and lead a decent lifestyle.

That is why I asked, "why would a 19 year old a male model who is studying towards an Economics degree at Northampton University, need to be in a gang"?

The same instinct in a different way manifests itself whenever people with right-wing views brand their opponents "lefties". And, of course, the other way round.

Most humans seem to want to belong to a community. How we define belonging varies, but it seems as if for many people they feel like they belong to one community more if there is some sort of rival community that they can be against. "I am on your side, because they are against both of us."

Sadly, rivalries do matter to many. Even then, for most people they don't take that rivalry to the next level. However much you may disagree with me I know you would never dream of punching me in the face. Or at least, you'd only do it once. For some other people, sadly they do have to be violent. Who knows why? Upbringing, perhaps, or some insecurity so that they feel that they have to prove themselves "worthy".

Perhaps it was because it happened to be in the Guardian.

In answer to your question:

/// What could the difference be? ///

Thank you for pointing the case out to me, I then had a chance to read through the story, which apparently you hadn't bothered to, because if you had you would not have failed to notice the 'DIFFERENCE'.

One 'DIFFERENCE' that is most apparent, is the fact that it is not a gang crime.
we are constantly being told that people join gangs because they feel they've been failed by an unjust system. No career options, lack of interest in education, etc etc.

this wouldnt seem to be the case, the murderer doesnt seem to fit that bill.
nor was there a mass brawl
Perhaps it is because he is black!!!

Well, well one learns something new every day.

Now that you have made that statement, would you be good enough to produce some evidence of that fact, also how many killings by knife or gun has there been amongst those "Gosh Horror White Middle Class Children"?
and that! anyway - good luck with the Greek prison system boys. You all looked very 'gangsta' in the pics. No xbox or ping-pong where you're going!
anotheroldgit,

if I had all day to trawl the internet looking for manipulated stats as you do then I would! However, I will instead have to use my personal knowledge gained from living in cities and from my career over the past 20 years!

/// Nationalism = place ///

/// Tribalism = People, many tribes are nomadic. ///

What a load of rubbish, most African tribes have lived in their same region of Africa for centuries and have been known to defend their ownership of their piece of land with terrifying gusto.
The pictures explain everything.
