Isn't the heart of the problem that some people voted for Morsi because he presented himself as a moderate Islamist , he won by a narrow margin, and then turned out to be more Islamist than many expected?

Just because someone has been democratically elected, that does not absolve them from past or even present affiliations.

Sometimes democracy just doesn't work AOG.
The elections were akin to 2 lions and a goat voting to decide who was going to be lunch.
Morsi won 51.7% of the vote and this means that a very large minority were going to have their entire way of life changed in a way that they didn't want.
Hardly surprising then that this situation has arisen.
