Just heard this the Today Program. I had to check the calendar in case I had woken up and it really was April 1st ! Difficult to believe that anybody would really do this.

JJ, I would not presume to tell you what you can/cannot post,
I was neither traumatised, nor am I self-pitying,
but I do not find child abuse in the least bit amusing, and if the day ever comes when I do then there is something seriously wrong!
Baldric, isn't that why people were offended by the Marmite advert?
Nothing to do with liking Marmite or not, but the use of pixelated faces and police breaking into houses to "rescue" the neglected as in a serious child abuse case.
No...the marmite ad is about animal rescue.
I note in the news from that 'rural enclave' that there's no mention of eggs or rocks being thrown to express disapproval, just words.

Just had a very good look at that Ad, NO it isn't.

Douglas, 'We didn't burn him!' eh?
// JJ as it involved probable child sex abuse I don't think Savile could ever now be labelled as just a laughable idiot. I'm not traumatised by it at all but when children are involved I don't think it should ever be a source of humour. //

I think what prudie said here sums up my attitude to it as well. I wouldn't even like to see his effigy on a bonfire, or in the stocks. I think it's too soon after the events for it to be trivialised.
Well, owz about that then !

There is a time when being retro can be in bad taste. Dressing up as an Auschwitz camp guard at a Jewish ex-servicemen's parade would be one. This is another.
However despite all ongoing investigations Jimmy Saville remains dead and therefore immune from prosecution. The greater question should be who at the BBC knew about all these goings on and said nothing.
What's a Twenty 10 Club?
I think it is their IQ and mental age, gromit
// Founded in 2010, the Twenty Ten Club enables Black female business owners and aspiring young entrepreneurs to achieve their potential. //

So the float was the idea of black business women and not a bunch of sexist blokes as I had assumed.

Does that mean that Sir James was played by a black woman on the float?
maybe there are no alledged victims coming forward across the wall and so it is not as close to home as down here in sunny England. Perhaps it has not been as prominent in their newspapers. We burn Guy Faulkes once a year, maybe they are suggesting we update our guy.
The fact that the float was the idea of black women was not reported.

It makes the story even more surreal.

Makes me wonder why it was not reported, though...
Knowing what the twenty 10 club is, just makes the story even more bizarre.

snap there gromit
Calm doon, it seems there may be more than one Twenty 10 Club.

i think if it had been clever and there had been some link to the event then i'd see the point and see the true humour in it - but as it is there was no point to it, its just a depiction of a 'baddie and a victim' - it could have been anyone really - a nazi and a load of withered concentration camp victims, fred west and a some kids, a victorian gent with a knife and some prostitutes etc.

it was in bad taste, but as they say, is up to the individuals and they clearly wanted to cause a stir.
many fancy dress shops now have a jimmy saville outfit - for halloween!
Even more bizarre. More than one twenty 10 club, one for black businesswomen, the other for women of unspecified racial origin who enjoy ..

// lectures, craft demonstrations, slide shows, having a go with a variety of musical instruments, outdoor country sports insights, first aid and jujitsu //

It could still be the same club. If not, I bet the black businesswomen are wondering how the hell they got involved in Jimmy Savile tribute float scandal.
You couldn't make it up.
You don't have to make it up Ludwig, somebody just has to Google the name and only read one entry.
I see your point, JJ, and it is has its merits, particularly about moving on and the inference of humour as healing.

However, there are still cases in the court system and popping up (wit the Fort Augustus College) and so therefore it is probably too early for such a publicity act.......
