Just heard this the Today Program. I had to check the calendar in case I had woken up and it really was April 1st ! Difficult to believe that anybody would really do this.

Worse still, it won a prize.
How's about that then?
very bad taste indeed...
It would have made more sense if the character depicting J Saville was in the stocks having cabbages thrown at him by schoolgirls.

WR.
Yes indeed Ron - although it would have been better not to portray him at all. I can't see the humour in it.

Perhaps someone should take a look at the lifestyle of the person/people whose idea it was?
who knows what goes on in these rural enclaves?
It's so incredible, I'm not sure whether to laugh about it or not.
How are they going to top this for next year - a moors murderers float perhaps?
Now then , now then.
Most stuff on Today just hums along as I get up but this really made me gasp this morning. How on earth did that get from suggestion to reality?
What's the rule on this thread?

Is anyone allowed to say that bad taste is not always the worst thing in the world? (You haven't seen much bad taste until you've lived here!)

And that, as a nation, we should stop feeling traumatised and self pitying, and now start ridiculing the laughable idiot Savile?

And that the victims have had a year of grief (or forty years of grief), and now we need to move on, for their sake, more than ours?

Or is it a thread where you can only post if you agree with the majority, otherwise you will be abused?

Just asking, before I post anything.
if his effigy had been dumped on a bonfire that would make more sense.
Question Author
joggerjayne...you can post pretty well anything here on AB, as long as you don't swear, or be unduly nasty to anyone else. We are also not keen on naked racism.

So, you can say that you think a Jimmyt Savile-themed float, with people dressed up as schoolgirls was nice and tasteful and not in bad taste if you want to !
Err, no. I think it was bad.
JJ as it involved probable child sex abuse I don't think Savile could ever now be labelled as just a laughable idiot. I'm not traumatised by it at all but when children are involved I don't think it should ever be a source of humour.
JJ - There are no rules. Just say what you think.
Me neither.

Just asking.
Yes, you can say what you like, but like JJ says, if you don't agree with the majority you will probably get jumped on.

It is quite unbelievable that someone could come up with this idea for a float.
Come on JJ be yourself

WR.
I agree with everyone else, WR
JJ: "Is anyone allowed to say that bad taste is not always the worst thing in the world?"

Of course bad taste is not the worst thing in the world, but that doesn't prevent it from being bad taste.

The notion of negating the impact of once concept by comparing it with another is and always has been a spurious piece of logic.

Example: - "The murder of child X is a tragedy, but millions of Jewish children died under the Nazis ..."

One is not less significant because of the numerical superiority of the other.

I would certainly hope that you would not be abused for any reasonable viewpoint.
