It seems that he's not a saint after all!

i never thought he was, nor do many, it's just that in recent years his aim to unite his country was a good thing to do, that it hasn't actually happened isn't really down to him alone.
If you do not want to watch it, don't go to the cinema.
It was largely him and deKlerk who managed to transition S.Africa from Apartheid without massive bloodshed.

That's a pretty incredible achievement when you look at Syria and Lybia and the like

But he's no saint but nobody is Mandela is no more perfect than Churchill for example.

Interested to see how they portray Winnie Mandela though!
Does it show the time when he was a terrorist (freedom fighter)?

Note the foot note, seems one or two skeletons are coming out of the cupboard.

/// The launch of Chadwick's film coincides with the UK release of Diana, a biographical drama about Diana, Princess of Wales that drew a withering response from the British media. ///
There aren't many 95 year-old saints. Bet your own great-grandad would have a naughty or nasty tale or two to tell about himself if he were still alive! If he is, ask him.
From the OP link

/A new screen biopic of Nelson Mandela does not shy away from the less flattering aspects of his character, according to its British star./

/It takes a commanding actor to fill the shoes of the man most instrumental in ending institutionalised oppression in South Africa/

/It doesn't have much of a point of view about its narrative, serving more as a rote recitation of memorable moments./

All seems rather tame

So why did the OP invent the 'beatification' angle?
AOG

I think it does show his early life, but unfortunately for you, this looks like another damn film which shows a black man in a good light.

(Shakes fist at the sky and gnashes teeth).

Tell you what though - you could always rent 'The Last King Of Scotland'. Idi comes off pretty badly in that.
Why do some people want to tarnish Mandela's name so badly?

What could it be?

There always seem to be a little phalanx of people ready to denigrate those who have achieved way more than them...

Mother Theresa, JFK and Dr Martin Luther King all spring to mind.
TTT

Who has been beautifying Mr Mandela?
Question Author
come on! The lefty right on brigade have made him a saint a thousand times over!
//If you do not want to watch it, don't go to the cinema. // True Gromit but not quite sure what that ahs to do with the post.

//Why do some people want to tarnish Mandela's name so badly? //
Are you suggesting they are lying then ?

And no he is not a saint.
But you miss the point that this film (the subject of the OP)

apparently does not 'beatify' him

which makes the premise of this particular question rather foolish
Exactly Zehul, the film shows him in a different light, one many right-on pinko's dont want us to see so I do have the point, you appear not to have it.

The OP is pointing out this. It is not the film beautifying him its the right-on brigade.
/The lefty right on brigade have made him a saint a thousand times over! /

Apparently none of the 'lefty right on brigade' on AB think he is a 'saint'

TTT; perhaps this is just a notion that has accumulated in your mind over the years filtered by particular points of view you already had?
He's not. I don't think you can be made a saint until 100 years after death?

"But you miss the point that this film (the subject of the OP)

err isn't that exactly the point, someone has decided to show the warts!
/The OP is pointing out this. It is not the film beautifying him its the right-on brigade. /

So..

a bunch of leftie luvvies are relating a balanced, honest version of the man in this film

remind me again; specifically where are the claims that he is a saint to be found because I can't say I've noticed anything other than what any revered leader would receive
TTT

I think that this is how it goes - most people think of Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King as 'good people' and that Idi Amin, Hitler and Tim McVeigh as 'bad people'.

I would bet that many of those who admire Mandela wold not characterise themselves as being on the left.

If that's what you believe, then is it safe to assume that those on 'the right' were perfectly happy with the status quo in South Africa under apartheid?

That's pretty outrageous...
//Does it show the time when he was a terrorist (freedom fighter)? //

Mandela was gaoled for sabotage

Seems to me that certain right whingers like to classify this as terrorism because it suits them to get at Mandela personally I don't buy that.

To my mind the difference between a freedom fighter and a terrorist is whether you have the support of the majority or even a large segment of the population
"He's not. I don't think you can be made a saint until 100 years after death?"

Not only that but he's a Methodist. They don't do saints.
