If they were, was it appropriate for them to take it to the papers and even for sexual equality charity Stonewall, and York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Forum to become involved?

/// A spokesperson from the York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Forum said: 'Clearly this is an unacceptable and wrong stereotype made by a member of staff at the bar, but it is also a mistake which could cause great offence and upset to anyone involved, regardless of their sexuality. ///

/// 'We would welcome any business to contact us should they feel their staff require training on issues of equality, where we would be more than happy to assist.' ///

Having looked on Google at interior shots of the place, I find it incredible the Manager cannot find an easy way of locating where diners are.
maybe it was a joke !!!!!!!!!!!!
was it that funny (!!!!!!!!!) Anne?
A joke the customers didn't find funny.

/// I wouldn't be happy if a receipt described me as a 'miserable old baldy'.
Could that bar not just number the tables? ///

Of course you would Sandy and you would have every right to be offended, that is a plain insult.

If you look at the bill they were sitting at table 11, but it was most likely a long table with many customers sitting at it.
Part of the delight of living in a free society like ours is the right to take offence if you wish.

Asking if someone 'should be offended' is frankly pointless - all you will get is two responses - those people who think the situation was offensive, and those who think it was not - which is exactly what you have received.

Were they right to be offended? Their choice.

Have they a right to be offended - yes.

Well no more to be said on the subject 'our Andy' has spoken.
Andy.....could you post on more AOG threads please lol.
I see no large tables in the bar, but let us say they were sharing a table with others - a simple 'Could we have a name to put on the check, so we make sure you get the right meals' or is that too easy ??
You beat me to it AOG....I often have the feeling that after Andy has posted, there is little else to say.-)... That is a compliment Andy...not a criticism.

Woofy...you are a changed woman over the past few months..all righteous and yes I agree that so far Andy,s a swer appears in my opinion to support yours as BEST ANSWER

BUT it is presumptuous of you to put it as if it was an order, rather than say.." Good answer Andy" OR " well written....don't you think?
Or a simple 'did anyone order food'

Ummmm, indeed as simple as that - Triggs, I know it is a shocker.
Thanks woof - I almost always post on AOG's threads - i always find his questions stimulating, and they generally generate debate.

///Best to stick to your usual questions on none news affairs///

It would appear we have a new member of the Editorial Staff, and there was I, under the impression this was a Public Forum.
It wouldn't bother me if I was mistaken for a lesbian, as long as it was one of the good looking ones, not those in donkey jackets........
