/// And she says that, like her, most of the women she met inside were serving time because of something men close to them had done. ///

If it is all mens fault, why isn't there twice as many male prisons and no women's prisons?

Because we are responsible for our own actions. 'He made me do it' is not a defence.
We all make our own choices in the world - Vicky Pryce made hers (Perjury) and went to jail - quite right too - that is why we have womens prisons.
Snap ummmm
She said 'most', not 'all' of the women. That explains why there aren't no women's prisons ! No doubt she would wish to identify with those who say that it's all a man's fault.
It's true, everybody knows all women are made of sugar and spice and never do anything wrong while all men are made of rats and snails and are always doing things like forcing their wives and girl friends to be nasty conniving evil bitches, well some of them any way.
// If it is all mens fault, why isn't there twice as many male prisons and no women's prisons? //

There are 63,000 males in prison. And 3,800 women.

Not that I am agreeing with her. Most women in prison are there by their own fault. Criminal have a habit of blaming others.
I wonder how much the DM is paying her? This is just an advert for her serialised story.
// Her compelling account, entitled Prisonomics, is being serialised in The Mail on Sunday, starting today. //

Is it right that she should be profiteering from her criminality?

And is it proper that the Daily Mail is paying a criminal for her story?
No, it's not right, Gromit.

I am sure that equally some men are in prison because of women, going by her logic.
There will be quite a high percentage of women in jail who blame men. Women are a preferred choice as drug mules and as credit card fraudsters; not sure why the first, but the second is explained by pickpockets finding it easier to steal from women's bags and so the cards stolen are usually of a Miss, Mrs or Ms, hence a woman has to present them. In both cases the original perpetrator will be a man .
Perhaps the Daily Mail gave her fee to charity. I think we should be told before there is 'fury' or 'outrage'. If she felt it important to relay her story to others, as a warning or lesson, she would surely do it for nothing.
Plenty of ex-cons have made money out of writing their autobiographies, such as Frankie Fraser.
There was a local case in which a woman was jailed for benefit fraud. But it struck me that while she was the one who, wrongly, signed the declarations it was her partner who reaped the benefit (no pun intended)
In all the years I'd seen the man in pubs/ betting shops/card schools I'd never met her. I presume she was at home raising their children. He was still out drinking, etc while she was locked up.
As Hc says, I'm sure lots of men end up in clink cos of scheming women.
I suppose the courts can only deal with what's in front of them and lifes not always fair.
4 days in holloway prison... Please give me your insight in return for cash you convicted liar
I thought the fact that she did time over the whole speeding tickets thing was perfectly right - although it was Huhnes offence, she agreed to take the points and only revealed what had happened as part of some kind revenge thing against Huhne, so poetic justice and hubris really.

That having been said - in this instance, I do not have any issues with her writing and publishing a book, and even making some money from it, assuming it sells. Were she profiting directly from her crimes, by writing a book sensationalising her crime that might be different, of course.

And I am sure there will be women in jail who are there because of men in their life, but many will be there because of their own actions and life choices.
