I noticed the irony of an obviously foreign letting agent, discriminating against a black under-cover reporter. We don't seem to have come very far from the days when signs saying " No Black, No Dogs and No Irish" were common place in Britain.

Ultimately you are bound by the laws that protect people against racial discrimination, so it isn't your choice anyway. Well, it is: you can choose to remember that the actions of people have nothing to do with what they look like, and everything to do with who they are -- or you can choose to break the law.

> oh get over yourself and stop looking for things to get offended by.

Just calling it as it is, baz. :)

Baz...It has been demonstrated here, quite clearly, by your own comments, that you think that it is OK to break the law of the land, as long as it suits you. This has been pointed out by most of the other contributors today. They are right and you are wrong...get used to it.

It has also been demonstrated, again by your own hand that you have racist tendencies. Your comments will be on record here, until the post is removed.

Hoisted by your own petard it would appear.

I don't want there to be any doubt about the situation uncovered by the BBC. Just for the record, if you discriminate, as a landlord, against a prospective tenant, on grounds of colour or race, or both, that is contrary to various Racial Discrimination Acts. I will leave it up to FredPuli to tell which particular Act is involved.

There is no wriggle room allowed here, and that is what is portrayed in the BBC clip that I posted here at 08.26 today....the very clip that you apparently couldn't get to work, despite everyone else having no problem in viewing. The letting agent was wrong, and so are you.

You may hold your views in private, which no legislation can take into account. But if you air those views in public, as you have today, then you have exposed yourself utterly. I suggest that you take this into account in the future and avoid any more exposures again.

pixie...it would seem that Alf Garnet is alive and kicking in Britain today !
It certainly does, Mikey. I'm, er, stunned, to be honest!
Question Author
Pixie...Its a sad fact of life in Britain today, that the racist attitudes displayed here on AB, by a minority, still exist.

Only last week, my neighbour knocked my door and asked me if I wanted anything, as she was going down the "Pak1s" for a pint of milk. Sorry about the misspelling ! A few months ago she expressed her sympathy that I was going to have to work in Cardiff that week, as there are a lot of "w*gs! there !

Priceless !

I absolutely guarantee that people with hose attitudes are dying out.

They're like smokers.

50 years ago, smoking was common. You could light up on buses, tube trains and cinemas.

But through education and legislation, the number of smokers began to fall, as people realised just how disgusting the habit was.

I compare that to bigotry.

There will always be a hardcore of smokers and there will always be a hardcore of bigots. They can practice whatever they like in their own homes, but we don't want their habits in public.

(By the way....I smoked for 30 years and bloody LOVED it, so please don't take this post to be an attack on smokers...it's just an analogy).
as i pointed out and provided links to the site that advertises rooms to let for Muslims only, and the other on the same gumtree site, advertising rooms for rent to Christian only, if its your own home, still don't see how this is right. still never mind. I did watch the programme, made me chuckle to see those responsible were Asian letting agents discriminating against Blacks, that sorry to say made my day, not because the black guys deserved it, more who was doing it, those featured on camera.
i sincerely hope those agents get a kicking from the race discrimination board or whatever the equivalent is now. why anyone is shocked is beyond me, happens in all walks of life, no matter your colour.
age, gender. they get round it, no matter how many equality laws you have in place
you get discriminated on the basis of age, gender and quite frankly i find that just as insidious
Question Author
SP...well done for giving up the cigarettes. You may have loved it but I bet you like having a better chance of living a significant bit longer even better !

I too gave it up when I was 28 and I am now 60. Thank God I did, or I might not be here now.
