Why? What would UKIP do about it?
Just because they have children shouldn't mean they should have a load of cash thrown at them. If they cant afford to keep them then they should be forcibly adopted and given to responsible childless couples.
Of course something should be done but I don't think changing child benefit is the way forward.

It's very hard to judge because everyone's circumstances are different.

We can't let the children starve or live in dangerous conditions, but in trying to care we are seeing the unintended consequence which is that it encourages this sort of lifestyle and creates an 'entitlement' culture. It's very hard to take benefits away so all we can do to change it now is to give notice that benefits may be removed in certain cases for future claims- say from 2015 child benefit will not be paid to a say a 5th or subsequent child after this date.
^ i.e. for children born in or after 2016
Or just don't pay for children conceived while claiming benefits.
Will this family be effected by the proposed benefits cap?
I would think so.

It all depends where they live and how much rent they have to pay.
//It's very hard to judge because everyone's circumstances are different.//

It’s not hard to judge that father’s circumstances. Lazy sod!

Changing benefits is absolutely the way forward. From now onwards no more child benefit. Pay for any existing children up until the age of 16 – and that’s it. If people have children they shouldn’t expect others to support them.
I agree....but what about the family with 5 kids, worked hard to support them and then gets made redundant?

That's why I say that children conceived while on benefits shouldn't be paid for.

Although....I'd hate to see a child go hungry because of their parents bad decisions.

It's very hard. If the parents are irresponsible anyway, it's more likely that the children will miss out than the parents. Maybe all benefits should be capped after a certain number of children - or do as they do in France and pay benefits until the child is five and that's it.
Don't they do reduced benefits? The first year you get full support and it reduces each year after that?
//what about the family with 5 kids, worked hard to support them and then gets made redundant? //

That's different. Benefits short term would cover that - until the breadwinner gets another job. Long term benefits should only be paid in the case of illness - when someone CAN'T work.
There is a new Waitrose store opening not far from me. They had to take the advert for jobs down because they were inundated with applicants.

It's not easy to get a job at the moment so it's not always that people are unwilling to work.

"Is the Conservative government encouraging them to procreate?"

I think many feel that the current government is encouraging them to go procreate with themselves.
quite right, stop this nonsense of endless child benefits, after two that should be it, as Naomi says anyone who has a bigger family, the father, mother worked then were made redundant then they should get help, after all they have paid some into the system, but that should not be for good. as for lazy so and so's who have never worked and expect the state to pick up the tab how has that ever been right. They should be told you won't get child benefit for more than two, and that you have to get a job, never worked and get all this help, wrong on every level.
Are you from Mayo, Ed? :-)
disabled, can't work that is a different matter, but it's obvious that some can, they just don't want to
Clearly many of those kids were created under labour Gromit, or is your maths that bad when your prime aim is tory bashing?

This sort of thing has to stop. That house is not actually that bad. Perhaps if they cleaned it and opened the windows it may solve a fair buit of the problem. After all they dont have much to do apart from watch a nice TV courtesy of the tax payers)
