It would seem that this logo has also come up for some criticism.

I think if one is gonna make a Nazi salute - then admitting it is, is part of the deal, and not to say O I thought I saw my mother on the other side of the street and was waving to her.
The Manc one - knowing the state of education in Manchester, I would not be surprised if the designer said something like - Oh we didnt do the second world war at skool.
[ You can do British History without the Indian Empire - altho I am not sure what it looks like ]

Indeed, Peter, education in history nowadays produces some odd results. There is supposed to a brief overview of everything since Boudicca, just to start, but thereafter the child gets taught little segments in depth. So my own had an astonishing knowledge of the Weimar Republic, of the women's suffrage movement and of the various factions in the Russian revolution, but thought Waterloo was just a station and knew nothing of Napoleon at all. My own education ended with the Campbell Bannerman administration, because shortly after that "history came to " . " " as Sellars and Yeatman put it
