In an earlier post a fellow ABer suggested that CCTV cameras should be done away with, anyone agree with this poster?

Take this example:

/// Five councils in London and at least two outside the capital, are involved in the trial, slammed by actor and parking campaigner Tom Conti as 'Stasti-style' surveillance, according to manufacturer Videalert. ///

"Stasti style surveillance", that's a little over the top surely?

I am for them, if you do not do anything wrong then they are not a problem.
It's an infringement of lazy mothers' rights to park immediately outside schools, whilst delivering little Hugo and Mezzanine (who have strangely non-functioning legs).

As any fule kno, those zigzag yellow lines mean "no parking, at all, ever ... except for yummy mummies in Range Rovers".

For - fined for breaking the rules of the road, seems sensible to me.

Parking and congestion at the school gates is a long standing problem- some people think it's fine until there is an accident then there is an outcry of 'why isn't the school/council/police doing anything about this?'

Worse, in my opinion, is that these parents are teaching their children from a very young age that it is not only fine but right to disregard rules and laws that are inconvenient - it doesn't apply to them.

Makes my blood boil. Put the cameras up at every school.
I'm all for these cameras, makes ya feel safe.

Ilegal and causing obstruction or gross inconvenience to other people. I always instructed our au pair to be very careful when driving the Chelsea tractor (well, a Suzuki 4 wd) on the school run, and I am sure you did the same. Must say that when I did it myself, I found the selfish desire to put their little darlings as close as possible to the school gates very annoying. And they weren't even foreigners (well , a lot of them were, but that's not the point) It just wasn't British !

I'm sorry to say i don't know what "stasi style" means
Stasi - "Ministerium für Staatssicherheit, MfS" or Ministry for State Security was East Germany's pre-glasnost state security service. it was probably the most repressive secret police organization that ever existed.

Totally for.
Well, its the DM so quite in keeping with "over the top".

Won't these cameras also catch the drug dealers that hang out in front of our schools, as well as the stupid parents that continue to park irresponsibly, that are a danger to their kids, and all the others ?

Roll on more cameras, if they help to keep kids safe. Another non-story from the DM.

/// Another non-story from the DM. ///

Where have we heard this same statement over and over again, please try and be a little more original in your continuous Daily Mail criticism.
The reason that it may sound as if I use this phrase to describe the DM a lot is because it deserves it, a lot. This is a complete non-story and you should have realised that...after all it was you that read the article and then posted it ! Most of us here on AB wouldn't have a clue what drivel the DM is on about every day, unless you posted it !

This isn't anything close to STASTI or STASI surveillance. Its just the DM banging on and on about a non-issue.

I supported the DM in its wonderful campaign to get a proper investigation and prosecution of the stupid thugs who killed Stephen Lawrence. Try to find something else of the same calibre from the DM to post in the future.
