Should this killer been allowed sex change surgery on the NHS, after being convicted of this horrific crime.
Surely if he has survived 22 years as a man, why the need to become a woman now that he has been convicted of murder?
/// Green's surgery is expected to cost several thousand of pounds and will include travel and accommodation expenses as well as guards. ///
/// Inmates and staff at Cornton Vale are reportedly furious at having to deal with him. ///
/// Scottish Tories chief whip John Lamont told the Daily Record: 'Upon killing this man, he should have lost all his rights to a sex change on the NHS. ///
'This sums up just how crazy our justice system has become.'

But I do know this: if something doesn't feel right, then it can be very difficult to ignore that feeling. Some deal with the thought of not fitting in better than others. But if it is there, it's there.
Since prison is at least partly about rehabilitation, helping her to find peace within herself might go some way towards that, no?

/// but there's no reason to assume that this is just a ploy. After all, she'll stay in prison for the sentence so at least in that sense nothing has changed. ///
And don't you think that life in a woman's prison is a lot easier than in a men's prison, and do you not think that he/she stands a better chance of an earlier release being a woman?

That's just being cynical. The process isn't really easy to reverse, so I doubt he decided to pretend to be a she for the vague prospect of earlier release ten years or so down the line. If he really thought of himself as a man, I find it hard to believe he'd sacrifice so much for such little gain!
Perhaps unsurprisingly you don't understand what it's like to be born into the wrong body. Choosing deliberately to go into the wrong body would be an incredible decision. I don't buy it for a second. I don't think you do either.

/// no doubt some would prefer it if prisoners didn't have access to the NHS and just died... ///
I wasn't aware that it was life threatening not to have a sex change carried out, if you think that person would commit suicide if he didn't have such an operation, then surely prison is the best place to have a 24/7 suicide watch carried out over him.

Prisoner Cell Block H didn't look like a holiday camp to me, aog.
As to how this is diagnosed... well, you see a man who prefers to wear a dress, likes a little makeup, carries a nice handbag, reads Jane Austen rather than Jack Reacher, watches romcoms rather than superhero movies... Would you take one look at him and think "girly"? If so, you've made the diagnosis yourself. He probably makes it the same way you do, except that he'll be a lot surer than you are.

Women's prisons are recognised as 'harder' than men's prisons. The reason being that only the worst of female offenders tend to be sent to prison. Most of the inmates will be very 'hard cases' and they will give this person a terrible time. It will be a nightmare trying to keep the 'nutters' from harming this inmate.
I am not an expert in this field....BUT..
the diagnosis of gender dysfunction or whatever one would like to call it has no chemical, radiological criteria other than feeling that you are in the body of the wrong gender. Blood tests, cytology, X-Rays are all unhelpful and the diagnosis depends on psychological scrutiny...OK..by experts.
It is what the patient is telling you....truth.....or otherwise and here we are dealing with a convicted killer ( who could well be telling the truth.)
This will be a costly procedure to the NHS and the number of cases who, after the operation, still feel that they are in the wrong sex body, is significant.
Waiting lists for hip replacements, coronary artery bypass surgery, cancer drugs are all funded from the same pot. Now if the NHS feels both ethically and financially, supported by a team of Psychiatrists that this will be either beneficial to the patient and or to community, then go ahead.
This is one of the problems of State medicine....one is spending other people's money and it seems to be unaccountable to nobody in particular.
Would an Private insurance company pay for this procedure, certainly not, but the tax payers of the UK will.

It's true that castrating horses, and dogs, reduces aggression in one limited area. They are no longer driven to fight over females, and lack associated drive to be top horse or top dog on that account. But aggression generally is from inside the brain; once the animal has a learned or natural tendency to pick fights with anybody and anything, it will do so, regardless.
Whether that applies to humans, I know not.

He's a murderer, us taxpayers are already paying to keep a roof over his head and provide him with 3 squares a day, Sky TV, games consoles etc at HM Holiday Camp.
NHS funds should be spent on people who deserve operations, not murderers who should have to give up their rights the day they took anothers life

I have a very good friend that is transgender, she was once married (as a man) but says that for many years she lived and married as a man was totally confused and miserable and in fact attempted suicide three times. She funded her operation herself, her life has now changed dramatically, she is now quite a beautiful woman and leading a happy fulfilled life. I totally support anybody requiring this operation, it isn't just someone doing it for kicks I can assure you. I think the operation is as vital as most other operations, be it on the NHS or privately funded.
