I was just about to pull you up on you use of 'effect' rather than 'affect', when it occurred to me that I might be wrong...so I won't.

Re: the turkeys scare...me neither. You stand a greater chance of being attacked by a family member at Christmas...especially if you get them the wrong 'Game of Thrones' DVD (how was I supposed to know I was meant to get season 2, not season 1?)

Just kidding fellas....
Effect is also a verb Zeuhl
as in "misleading newspaper articles can effect a change in the Christmas menus this year"
Though nothing to do with MRSA in turkeys :(

Sorry for the derailment - I think the same check that we do with chicken should be done with Turkey...thoroughly well cooked and a skewer into the thickest part of leg and breast - if the juices run clear, then you're safe.
